minutes played is a great way to say a goalie is good or not

Montoya was as good as done in the NHL... he is very streaky. Greiss would be cheap, knows how to be the #2 of a contender and his numbers have been fine all the time

Greiss played for a playoff bound San Jose Sharks team prior to Phoenix. Montoya played for a wretched NY Islanders team prior to Winnipeg. Montoya even outplayed Pavelec this season.

Montoya outplaying Pavelec is not much of an achievement, just saying.

I really don't think Greiss is too expensive. Right now his cap hit is only 100,000 more than Montoya, and we can probably afford to pay him 1M, which would be a 300k raise. Still think Thomas is the better option here. The last thing Montoya is is consistent and with streaky Crawford we need another guy to come in and lighten the load a little bit. With Montoya as backup the pressure is all on Crawford yet again.

Greiss or Gustavsson... or keep Raanta. That's what I want and how I see it

The Chicago Blackhawks need to bring in competition for the backup goaltender job. Anyone who costs no more than Raanta's current salary cap hit of $925,000.

The situation should be no different than the Emery versus Salak goaltender battle in the summer of 2011.
