I have to think that this is a roster move to open a spot for Couture to come off of IR sometime soon.

Could be Couture or Burish or Torres the way they've been talking.

Especially since they can't activate Torres or Burish off of LTIR w/o another roster move to open up more cap space.

Edit: Sending Hayes to Worcester would open enough cap space for one of the two to come off of LTIR but McLellan has been saying that Couture's very close.

Good riddance to bad rubbish.

If you need a player to get you an assist in 35 games, he's your guy.

I hope he clears. Good guy for Worcester to have around. That said, he wasn't cutting it up here.

To be fair, if Hayes isn't selfish and gets his foot out of the way, McCarthy gets his 1st goal and doubles his pt total...

Any idea if anyone is coming back from injury for the Hawks game tomorrow? Need to finish the GDT.

The Sharks had today off so there likely won't be any confirmation one way or the other if someone is ready to come off or IR until tomorrow.

What I find funny is that Tim Kennedy also got waived.

No need to kick people when they're down. It didn't work out for him, but I appreciate his effort.

Thought the coaches loved him. He had a long leash. We have had this discussion for weeks I was excited when he got scratched but this just takes the cake. Addition by subtraction

The Ducks are going to take him and he's going to go on to finishing the season with 28 Points and get a Hat Trick in the playoffs against the Sharks in game 7, but his team will lose because that's his luck

I don't know honestly but according to the waivers thread on the main boards, he's been waived.

Kurtz just said on twitter that he doesn't think Couture will play tomorrow, so take that as you will.

There's a chance that McCarthy was waived but sticks with the big club. Kennedy's availability for tomorrow is unknown as well.

Edit: Never mind, McCarthy is on his way to Worcester

David Pollak @PollakOnSharks
Team has the day off. Me, too. But can confirm that John McCarthy is en route to WOR if he clears waivers. Saturday, it's #SJSharks vs. CHI.

I remember back a few years during one of the prospects games with the ducks, he got in a fight and his parents were sitting next to me. I talked with his mom a bit and since then always been pulling for him to make an impact. He hasn't done much at all, but did what he could in his time with the big club.

Good luck john, he will be back come playoff time as insurance if he doesn't get claimed.

He won't get claimed. Every team has players like McCarthy. They are generally carried in the AHL as leadership and as injury insurance for the big club. In a sense, he is the same as Kearns. However, he had done enough to warrant a one-way contract. He probably got that contract because he had enough value to get an overseas contract that would have had him journeying overseas. At the outset of the year, they couldn't be sure that they were going with Hertl, Sheppard and Nieto on the big club. McCarthy and Kearns were there in the event of the failure of those 3.

There is no reason to condemn him for lack of offense. That was already proven. But, that is exactly the type of guy you get with the insurance types.

I do wish the Sharks would look harder for insurance types with more offensive flair a la Vesce, but it is what it is.
