NYR Permit other teams to talk to Callahan's agent

Developing story, NYR grant permission to at least 1 team who has already talked with Callahan's agent. More on Sportscentre. #TSN

I really thought Burke was going to throw the bank at him this summer, now I'm not so sure we get the opportunity.

Good as gone. Pretty interesting feeling. I'm largely okay with it but he's been such a fixture as a homegrown, blue collar captain. Never really imagined he'd be moved. C'est la vie.

I half expect the "talks with Callahan's agent" will lead to talks dying off when whatever team realizes they would have to pay a LOT to keep him.

Wouldn't be surprised if it's Buffalo.

Stuff just got real!

Sather's doing the right thing. Girardi is needed more on this team than Callahan. It's gonna be difficult seeing Callahan on another team though...very difficult.

Obviously if a team can sign Callahan to a long term extension his value increases significantly. If he's gonna be traded this move helps the Rangers quite a bit.

The Rangers likely know how much Callahan wants on a new contract. I see no way they offer a team rights unless they are within that vicinity already. Too much of a team distraction if a trade is offered and the AAV that is being offered is 1.5 million under Callahan's demands.

I know its likely not the Sens, as we have no 1st, but god dammit I would love it to be so

It seems like the Callahan era of the Rangers is closing. I'd love him on the Pens, and if he comes with an extension, I think they wouldn't hesitate to trade significant assets for him.

Not surprised Columbus is in on it. IMO, Philly would be; the sign and trade thing seems like a move they'd do.

He's definitely on his way out.

Interesting that they would grant permission to other GM's to speak with his agent.

This is weird, because we all love captain Cally. It is the right thing to do while managing a team under a salary cap, but the thought of him in someone else's jersey is very uncomfortable. If he gets traded, I hope the Rangers make a killing on the deal, and that Cally goes to a team that can win the cup (that is NOT in the Eastern Conference).

With the St. Louis rumors, maybe it's the way that the NYR could add the + to the Stewart deal?

He's worth more if the other team knows they can re-sign him. It's a common move just doesn't always get attention.

I don't know how you can conceivably trade your captain/heart and soul of the organization to a team in your division unless it is a massive, and I mean MASSIVE, overpayment.

The Canucks should be all in on Callahan, he'd give that team a much needed backbone
