Nikolai Kulemin is available

Dreger says that Dave Nonis has made it known to other GM's that Nikolai Kulemin is available.

Kulemin is an excellent physical forward, very good checker and has better offensive skills than his accumulated statistics might suggest. He's a good 2nd line complementary winger and an excellent 3rd line winger that plays on the PK. The Maple Leafs are likely looking for a roster player that can help now and not draft picks.

Nikolai is an UFA in July.

He has played pretty good the last few games. Not sure if Carlyle just figured out how to use him or Kulemin just realized he's playing for a new contract.

Regardless of where he goes at the deadline Geno will convince him to sign with the Pens in the offseason.

I love Kulemin but I don't think we can afford to keep him. He might be looking for $4M+ in the summer.

I have been holding him in my deep deep keeper league hoping to see him with Malkin in the NHL

I know boarders LOVE hearing about guys fantasy teams!

I don't understand who they think they can get for him that will bring as much as Kulemin does, but I guess they want a cheaper signed guy...

this guy is alot better offensively then the stats suggest. He's not a 30 goal guy like his career year but hes definitely capable of 20-25 and 45-50 points with top defensive play. He's just getting the short end of the stick in having to play all the defence for a group of forwards who dont know how

Will be an easy win for whatever team trades for him unless Nonis realizes the same

This is likely. I have a feeling Kulemin ends up in either Toronto or Pittsburgh.

There isn't really anywhere else I see him going unless that team overpays by quite a bit.

on the TSN Radio twitter account, Dreger said the Leafs wouldn't likely be able to retain Kulemin because he'd be too expensive for a 3rd line forward. Also said Leafs haven't ruled holding onto Kulemin and letting him walk as an UFA if the market isn't strong enough to deal him.

Your sentiment here very much coincides with mine. I think as you said yourself, the stats don't tell the whole story.

Me too, but hes probably indicated he wants a contract which is out of our budget.

Pitt seems like the obvious candidate here, with his connection to Malkin and their yearly TDD winger acquisition.

Lots of wrappers according to Dreger.

Definitely testing the market to see what he can get for Nik
Too expensive for a 3rd liner, I say move him up then.
He could be a Toronto rental, meaning resigning him on July 1.

I agree, unless someone comes back who makes the team better, this loss will be felt. I would pay him, up to a reasonably generous point.

Nonis hasnt bluntly stated in the past hes got no issues doing this. Its a strong possibility.

I think I made my point. Issue is cap, because I'm not sure it will work.

It'll work, his cap hit isn't that cumbersome.

Kulemin for Harrington

If they traded Morrow for Morrow, they'd give us Harrington right?

Orpik is 33 years old. I'd do it if he wasn't 6 years older and left handed.

Brandon Sutter or Matt Niskanen might fit in better with the Maple Leafs team.

Big two-way centre or right handed 2nd pairing defenceman.
