Why would Tarnstrom be on both PP units? Gonchar should be on both, he's a much better PP QB than Tarnstrom.

Two Malones? How about a Recchi? And if Malkin doesn't come, Kraft will do. Or Beech. Or Surovy. Or Ouellet.
And what if Morozov comes?

The Pens may very well be leaving Pittsburgh in two seasons when the arena's lease is up. So I think the Pens figure they might as well spend some money and try to win while the team is in town. At least go out with a bang.

No. A top 5 of Gonchar, Tarnstrom, Jackman, Orpik and Melichar is absolutely respectable.

TSN has the story up now...

It is a three-year contract worth $13.5 million US.

The Hawks would be quite willing to give you Tbo for a scorer.

I'd expect them to camp the pylon out in front of the net, and Mario, Ziggy and Crosby will take turns banking the puck off the pylon into the net. It is expected that this will be the first time that an inanimate object will lead the league in power play goals......
Not true. Robbie Brown

But honestly, who's going to play defense in Pittsburgh?

You dont need much defense when you have the puck buried in the other teams end and net all night.

The Pens defense is talented but iffy some yes. But alot of talent.

I think CP came into free agency and saw every good defensive defenseman leave the market right away and said "F it. We'll just score 8 times a game. Get Gonchar and Palfy on the phone."

Malone, Lemiuex, Pallfy
Malkin, Crosby, Recchi

Koltsov, Holzinger, Fata
Surovy, Beech, Kostopoulos

Dunno to much about the penguins ... but wouldn't it be something closer to this ..... I'm proabably waaaay off though hah. but play Malkin n Crosby together with Recchi on the line to teach? Then Let the two big guns handle the pressure ....

That unit is respectable at scoring goals, but doing their primary job of keeping the puck out of the net? Among the worst in the league, no doubt.

I disagree. Not good at actual defense, no, but certainly not among the worst.

Not that I think this is a bad signing, but I would like to note that if it was the New York Rangers who had done the exact same sequence of signings as the Penguins, people would almost certainly be blasting them with stuff like "no defense", "big-name stars who won't have any chemistry", and so on.

I'd say so. Richard Jackman is in the top four.

so true. I think CuJo is the best option. If I was the pens, i would give half half games to Cujo and run with Cujo in the playoffs....unless MAF has a Vezina type year. But CuJo excels best when he plays behind weaker defense cores and faces more shots.

What's going on with Morozov? I know he hasn't really lived up to expectations but he's still a legit scoring line player. Is Mario looking to dump him? If so, the Blues would probably trade Walker or Salvy for him(if you're trying to dump him anyway you might as well get a defensive defenseman back). In fact, I'd trade one of those 2 for any scorer the Pens have right now.

I'd rather just keep Fleury in the AHL all year. I think it's clear that while he has great talent, he is more of an athelete playing goaltender than anything else. He's going to need to play a lot to develop into an NHL goalie, and I think the AHL would be the best place for him to do that. He's clearly not ready to play behind an offensive team with a bad defense.

Let Cujo split time with some scrub like Caron.
