I would pick Thornton to replace Stammer. But then again it's not my team

If it's not St. Louis, Yzerman's a dolt.

And to be honest, Giroux should be going instead of Duchene. I love Dutchy, but he's not elite yet. Giroux is. Just because Claude had a poor start shouldn't have swayed the Canadian brain trust that completely.

But whatever...I'm just hoping the yellow water in Sochi doesn't poison our favorite athletes and that they stay safe in that misbegotten hellhole where the streets are lined with the carcasses of poisoned dogs. After this, I really, truly hope the "Prolympics" are done. It was nice for a while, but the Olympic break is just a big nuisance. I've no wish to see my favorite team and players head overseas for a glorified exhibition tournament.

Giroux hasn't had a good season, Duchene has. Maybe they see something in Duchene that you apparently don't.

second sentence is the right answer, whether right or wrong.

If 18-37-55 isn't a good season, then neither is Duchene's 17-31-48. Both are minus-1 on the season BTW, and Duchene has only played four fewer games.

And don't play the "they must know more than you" card. I'm allowed to have my opinion. Just because I think Giroux has reached a level that Duchene hasn't yet doesn't mean I'm slagging Duchene. He's three years younger and is already playing at a comparable level. No doubt in my mind he will be elite, I just don't think he's quite there yet.

I don't think Yzerman has any choice but to take MSL. First of all, he's clearly good enough. Secondly, with how angry and disappointed MSL was with being left off I think it would burn every bridge between him and Yzerman if he was snubbed again.

I've believed Duchene was in Canada's plans all along. It's not meant to be an all-star team. Players were chosen for specific roles.

Ok, I didn't check Giroux's stats until now. I just got mad because it sounded like Duchene didn't deserve to be picked.

To be fair, at the time the team was decided, not too many were surprised that Giroux wasn't on that list

Oh, Stamkos wasn't cleared to play for the Lightning at his check up, that definitely explains it.

Duchene isn't being brought for scoring. There's a reason Roy called Yzerman and Stevie Y had Duchene change his game up so he could make it on the team.

If he's not being brought for scoring, what is he being brought for? I don't think his game is radically different this year than it was last year. How is he so much different than Giroux?

Offense and speed is the reason why Duchene is on the team.

I'd love to see him on Crosby's wing now that Stamkos is out.

Duchene's advantage is his speed which will be useful on the bigger ice.

To be honest, the guy that said they probably see something you dont is probably right... I mean, it's not like you can't have your own opinion. I personally think they have other options that are better then Duchene as well. I just don't presume to know more then a single person on that decision making team either.

There's a lot that go's into play. They could want duchene for his speed, something MSL nor Claude will provide.

Speed and playmaking. I'm sure whatever line he's on will have a scorer.

Duchene will be there to produce offense 5 on 5. His speed through the neutral zone, and his work behind the net. He can draw a lot of penalties, and with the open ice he will have lots of room to use his speed.

Eh, this whole "he can use his speed on the bigger ice" thing is being overthought by all the respective clubs. Like St. Louis would struggle on the larger ice surface where he'd have even more time and space to make plays? Really? Giroux isn't exactly slow either.

And I still think the US Brain Trust is making a mistake not taking Bobby Ryan. I also think they may regret leaving EJ Johnson off, but hey, he could use the rest.

I think it's best for him , Playing in the Olympics is a fierce competition and as talented as he may be it's better for him to stay home , insted of playing at 75%... and there always the possiblities of injuries when you're playing and you're not at 100%

Steve Yzerman already said no to MSL a few weeks ago , i dont see him telling MSL no a second time . St-Louis will probably play ... unless his pride gets in the way .

Martin St-Louis has been named to the #TeamCanada roster for #Sochi2014, replacing Steven Stamkos.
