Kudos to MT for finally giving in and playing him on the PP and giving him icetime.

Good in all 3-zone, physical, agressive and productive.....what's not to like.
He's a keeper in my book...always were!
Quite right. Whole team plays better.

A 3rd line center on a contending team. Lars is a stud.

Such a tease this eller.

Scouts were debating whether he was a top 6 or top 9 before his draft year, and we continue to debate it today.

I think he's best utilized on a puck possession line that works the boards, rather than a transitional one... Call it top 6 or top 9, but that's his best suited role.

The debate should be over. Eller isnt a top 6 player, he doesnt have the finish or the tools to put it all together. Some players are like that.

Eller is a GREAT 3rd line center that can fill up for injuries for top 6. Glad we have him and we should keep him.

Wonder what he'd look like as a LW with a good center.

That. I mean, the question with Eller is never about his physical abilities and basic skills. It's always been hockey IQ and vision.

He's the best forward on this team at carrying the puck through the middle of the ice, as an LW he'd look like a player whose biggest strengths are being neutralized.

I don't know why the debate should be over as he's finally putting it together at the most crucial time of the year. Who knows what we could've done last year if he wasn't injured.

I just did some quick number crunching and he's freaking 2nd in the playoffs in ES points! Tied with Jeff Carter. He's also a +6. That's pretty unreal.

I haven't seen all the games but I haven't seen any of his 'low IQ' plays that he used to make. He's made some just beautiful passes. I don't think he has low IQ just some confidence issues. He's been making nothing but smart plays in all zones from what I've seen.

I think with consistent and skilled wingers he could be a 2nd line center. If Pleks can than Eller can. He has a decent shot too. Pretty underrated. Nice to see him make attempts with the one-timer too. I think he's still getting better.

I tend to agree with you but I say the debate is still alive based on what I read around here.

Eller can handle the 2nd line center position he just needs to play with decent players on a consistent basis. He also needs to get some PP time which he is not getting.

This was tried in the Danish national squad during the Worlds a couple of years back without any succes. The center was Frans Nielsen by the way, then you can judge whether you think he is good or not. Whether it would work now a couple of years later I can not answer.

A lot of people should be eating crow but of course they're nowhere to be seen. Lars has been the best center man all playoffs and people still think he's a 3rd liner or want to switch him to wing. Lmao.

A good playoffs doesn't completely excuse a terrible regular season. Part of that was his linemates but he needs to take some responsibility for it too. I'm glad to see he's playing better now and I hope he can keep it up, but I'm not convinced yet.

He's clearly a streaky offensive player with confidence issues. He probably always will be, although if he's allowed to play to his strengths and given regular, competent wingers he probably won't slump as badly as he did during the regular season.

Neither his slumps nor the periods where he looks like a 1C are flukes. But either way, you can't expect PPG production when given no PP time and defensive zone starts.

I don't know. He's never been that terrible for so long a period before. He was brilliant last year. Great at the beginning of this year got his line taken away and was probably down about it for longer than he should've been.

All he's done is get better and he's playing his best hockey when it really matters. That tells me all I need to know. He's really been beyond reproach. And tied for 2nd in ES points for crying out loud!!!!

Imagine if Vanek and Eller or Patches and Eller got a chance to play together and develop chemistry.

Just imagine.

after last night (hell, all series) there is no excuse to not play him and Chucky with better linemates/for more minutes than Desharnais. With Prust back I'd even go so far as to sit Desharnais.

if Vanek stays (I think he does) I think it could be a real possibility and yeah it would be amazing.

Gallagher-Galchenyuk-Pacioretty
Vanek-Eller-Andrighetto/DLR/Lehkonen

Maybe we should trade him for a young goalie with potential? And then when this young goalie goes on a good playoff run, you trade him for a young center with size?
