Remaining UFA Hypothetical

Bondra-Jokinen-Selanne
Roberts-Nieuwendyk-Horton
Gelinas-Weiss-Kolnik
Hagman-Perrault-S.Young

Bouwmeester-Hamrlik
Van Ryn-Hill
Krajicek-Novak

Luongo
McLennan

*I considered Anson Carter for the 4th line RW spot but figured S.Young, though roughly 7 years older, would be more inclined to accept a 4th line chcking job. Young also has 2 Cup rings (PIT/COL), whereas Anson has none.

Bondra and Selanne don't excite me, but when you lay down and let Pittsburgh (Palffy) and Nashville (Kariya) walk all over you, you create fewer options for yourself

$4.5 mil for each of them. I still can't *** believe it. the two went for a combined $2 mil less than i had guessed. we could have added both quite easily AND still have had enough bread to bring back Luongo, Jokinen and the rest of the RFA crew handsomely.

of the above proposed ufa signings, only Hamrlik should be pricey, and with guys like Aucoin/Ozolinsh/Gonchar/Zhitnik/Berard ranging from $2.5-$4 mil, i can't see him having much leverage to step outside that salary frame.

I only see us possibly getting ONE of those that you mentioned.

And if I were to choose, it would be Teemu Selanne, not only because he's one of the most inadvertently funny NHLers, it would bring attention to the team, which they so desperately need.

Of course, that won't happen. The only one I really can see here is Anson Carter, I'm not sure why. I think Keenan will see him for cheap and just take him for the hell of it. I mean, what Panthers offseason would be complete without aquiring a journeyman?

I only WISH we could get a team like this. Not in a million years.

However, the only one from that list that is a possibility is Scott Young. I'm sure Keenan will sign him. He'd be cheap and Keenan can get away with calling him a "scorer", so don't be surprised if we see a 48 in a Panthers uniform this season.

That's alot of signings to do, and I doubt we will have enough in the Cohen CAP he set.

Rumour: Atlanta is hot on Bondra's heels... "the Thrashers are rumored to be after perennial point producer Peter Bondra" http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/columns/story?id=2125800

We might be able to pass Carolina aswell, assuming Atlanta get's Bondra you also got to remember Lethonin is there goalie, kind of young but he's got skill.

Does anyone know the status of Marcus Ragnarsson? I was under the impression he wasn't returning to North America, but this seems to imply otherwise (unless the guy who wrote this is wrong).......

Scott Lachance and Marcus Ragnarsson are also solid options left on the blue-line among the unrestricted free agents.
He'd make a very decent pickup to fill our need (defensive d-man that can log a lot of minutes). Not really a 1st pairing guy, but it's better than using Karpovtsev.
