Kesler, Edler and Kassian.. could you possibly come up with a more hated group of players to the Oilers? I think that tops it.

Well I could throw in Burrows for Yakupov to help balance out the salaries somewhat.

Kesler, Edler, Kassian, Burrows for Eberle, Gagner, Hemsky, Yakupov

Think the Nucks bite on that one?

I get it.

Honestly though... wouldn't you all have to admit that trade is roughly equal for both sides and gives both teams more of what they don't now have?

It's true, but I'm pretty sure my head would explode if it happened.

If both fanbases hate the deal... it must be a good one.

It would be nice if we could get him for Gagner and Klefbom, but that's not happening.

New York seems like a fit. Both HCs have had success with the other team's roster and could definitely be canvasing the GM for "their guy".

I just know that if we see a Kesler for Staal deal (or something like it), I'll lose my mind because we could use both players.
Problem is we don't have that one piece to get either thing done.

I agree Kesler fits the Oilers to a T, but I'd be pretty concerned about the cost. There are a lot of miles on Kesler's body, he's only signed for 2 more years and he clearly isn't the player that he was a couple of seasons ago.

Aside from that, is the fact that Kesler has a NTC and for a guy who will be as sought after as he will be, there is no way he's going to waive it to come to Edmonton. Kesler's only going to want to go to a team with a legitimate chance. That aint Edmonton.

Well there's that as well.

Kesler and Edler would be god sends for this team, but I don't see Gillis trading them within the division for a price we're willing to give up.

We could really use both Kesler and Edler. It's to bad Nonis would probably never trade them to a team in the Pacific. For some reason I think the Canucks really like Gagner, and Klefbom/Marincin would interest them as well. Would anyone do Gagner, Klefbom/Marincin, Yakupov for Kesler and Edler? I would prefer to send a Musil/Gernat level of prospect instead of Klef/Marincin, and I guess you could add our 2014 1st and keep Yakupov, but I think there is a deal there that would benefit both teams.

I would be happy if we got Edler, actually one of the few I like on the Nucks. Kesler, I admit is exactly what this team needs, but I honeslty don't know if I could get past the dislike I have for him as a player.

I worry to some extent that Kesler is a vastly superior version of Horcoff, following a similar trajectory. I admit that's hyperbole, but he's racked up several injuries in recent years, and I personally believe that Kesler is close to falling off a similar cliff that Horcoff did. By the time the Oilers would be a playoff threat, Kesler would be 32 and a free agent.

Don't get me wrong, we could really use a player like him, but I don't know if he's the answer.

I'm higher on Edler. He's slightly younger, signed longer, and he's the kind of D-man that the Oilers really need. When he's playing his best, I'd argue that he's a top pairing D-man in the same vein as Phaneuf (not elite, but definitely a #1/#2), which would allow Petry/J. Schultz/Marincin to play further down the depth chart, as they so obviously need to.

Gagner, Klefbom/Marincin, 2015 1st is most I offer for Kesler with 2 years left at the age of 29.

The whole Friedman interview where he's talking about Kesler being a great fit for Edmonton and such... the most interesting thing to me was when he said Kesler wasn't worth a top 3 pick, but Shea Weber is.

Quote:
Friedman "if you're telling me that you're getting Shea Weber then sure, but I don't think Kesler is worth a top 3 pick"
He's been sparking a bunch of Weber and Edmonton dreams going back to his 30 Thoughts on it. Alas...

Watch that turn into us getting a new Shawn Horcoff and the Canucks getting a top10 pick in an insane draft.

No need to worry about any Kesler to Edmonton trades.

Oiler's management can chase the rainbow all day, the only thing that really matters in any deal for Kesler is his no trade clause, and he isn't waiving it to come to Edmonton.

Nucks are in the midst of a huge regression this season.

They go from a President's Trophy two seasons ago to potentially out of the playoffs this year. Their goal differential is bad this year and their record is probably better than it should be.

I think they pretty much HAVE to do a big shakeup. They weren't supposed to suck this bad this fast... I think everyone anticipated a slowdown from their "glory years" but not at this rate.

I guess Eakins has a small connection with Kesler. He was the captain of the Manitoba Moose the first year Kesler was there. I could see Eakins pushing very hard for Kesler. Who knows, maybe he has some pictures of Kesler to get him to waive his NTC too
