Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir are simply sublime. Simply sublime. So sad politics has to get in the way.

World record in the free. What a career for the both of them.

Yeah. The American team re-broke the record. They were perfect. Well skated by both teams...I don't really know how you judge this sport though.

Davis and White re-broke the WR Virtue and Moir had just set by another 2+ points...

They were good, but...

Hey, well in Rome? Bribe everyone within earshot because, you know, Russia's crazy like that.

I think more appropriately Figure Skating is crazy like that. A very long history of corrupt judging. Unless there is an admittance like there was with the French judge in Salt Lake City no one will ever know.

But there sure is a stink to it.

I would think the corruption spans a lot farther than that. With different sports being impacted and with certain results being wanted and with a view to getting that. Look no farther than the last Olympics and the Canada vs USA womens soccer game. You can't tell me the ref wasn't bought. So absolutely blatant.

The trouble is when sporting atrocity like that occurs it kind of precludes even wanting to watch. Because whats the point if the sanctity of what occurs on the pitch, or on the ice is tainted.

The heats for the 500 m speed skating event is tonight at 3:15 I believe.

Hopefully Charles brings his A game, the 500 m is very exciting.

Snowboard Cross is fun to watch but it's a bit of a joke. So many riders had awesome runs going and then got taken out by guys trying desperate moves behind them. I know that's the luck of the game but I hate that it is so easy to lose based on no fault of your own.

There are no true medal favourites for that sport. Anything and everything does happen.

I think moving from 4 to 6 rider was a mistake. Other riders and their mistakes/lines can screw you too often.

I kind of feel like that's part of the sport though. It adds to that raw race element--you aren't going to win if you aren't willing to take risks, and what's going to separate the best from the rest is the ability to stay in control when taking those risks.

Short track cannot be described as anything other than an unmitigated disaster at these Olympics. Just astonishing. Unprovoked wipe-outs have likely taken 3 medals off the board.

After the best start ever for Canada at the Olympics we have slowed down tremendously
I have no numbers to back this up right now but looks to me like we will do worse then We did in Vancouver

"Best ever start" was padded a little by some early medals in the brand new slope style skiing and snowboard events.

We might still win the same amount of medals as Vancouver (it seems like a stretch though), but there are new events this year, and we will come nowhere close to the number of gold medals.

The short track team gassing multiple medals has pretty much killed any chance of this Olympics being comparable to Vancouver.
