I mean, if they do get Stastny I don't think they would be improving because that means Sharp and probably a defenseman are gone to clear salary, so if anything it'd be a pretty lateral move.

But hey, whatever. Guess they would rather have a center than another winger so I can kinda see why they'd want to.

Chicago has a metric **** ton of cap space they need to clear if they want Stastny. They are going to end up spending 20 million a season on Kane and Toews alone.

I think it's worrisome. Yes it's probably a lateral move (Sharp out, Stastny in), but I'm sure Sharp could pull in a heck of a futures package and set them up for more success. Freakin Blackhawks

The 'Hawks are over the cap with 22 players signed. They have to give massive extensions to both Kane and Toews that kick in next season (although the cap might be in the $74m range then).

I've got a better chance of hiring Stastny as my gardener.

He only cost a 2nd rounder It would not have impacted a center. Would have just hurt our depth by losing a pick.

Sharp gone this season and Hossa gone next. If we don't end up with a top center I'm going to be seriously pissed off.

By 2016, Hossa will have been paid over $55m of his $63m contract and have 5 years remaining. If Chicago trade him in a year, he could play 1 year at his new team and then "retire" to the KHL. Chicago would then be on the hook for a $3m cap recapture penalty for the next 5 seasons.

It would be a risk trading him.
