This basically ends Vancouver's run as a contender. If they don't get a great return for Kesler, they are going to be a disaster for years.
If that's truly the case, then Gillis is an even bigger moron than I thought. The man makes Brian Burke look like Albert Einstein.

Still... amazing deal for the Panthers. They starter now has a $4.5m cap hit, his $5.7 salary in each of the next 4 seasons is still good value in the current market and the the final 4 years they aren't even paying out $6m in total salary.
Yeah it's a great deal for Florida, and for Luongo. He gets out of a crappy situation and goes back to a place that he likes. Plus, no state income tax. Florida gets their starter for the next five to six years on the cheap, and give up virtually nothing. I still can't wrap my head around trading Schneider last year. If they had to, they should have bought Lou out.

Canuck fans can try to spin this any way they want, but the fact is they traded Cory Schneider and Roberto Luongo for Jakob Markstrom, Bo Horvat, and Shawn Matthias. That is unacceptable.

Now give us Kesler and move on.

Am I wrong for now assuming Kesler is definitely on his way out? I mean when you get bent over this bad, why not get bent over by the Blues? I would have offered Berglund+Rattie+pick for Kesler, but seeing as how big of a moron Gillis is, I wonder if he'd take Berglund+Cody Beach

Jaro could still go to Wash, but it's definitely a buyer's market.

This was my first thought. Same with Alex Edler.

It's amazing how much I've switched on Kesler lately. Would be overjoyed to get him.

I read that Elliot Friedman thinks Van wants a first+ for Kesler. He'll probably go East to the Penguins.

Hey! How exactly is a rainbow made? How exactly does a sun set? How exactly does a posi-trac rear-end on a Plymouth work? It just does.

Such a weird situation. Sedin's are declining, but they were given extensions, and as long as they have them, they aren't going to be able to do a proper rebuild. If they trade Edler, they won't get much relative to his historical value because he's been horribad this season.

And we wouldn't even ask them to retain salary... how could they say no?

If it's only a 1st plus, use Edmonton's 2nd and beat everyone else's combination of players/prospects. Cup would be ours.

Kesler is definitely their best trade chip. But after getting so screwed on this Luongo deal, I can't see anybody offering them too much, at least to start. It's such a shame that we don't have a first because I'd really like Kesler.

As if the Luongo trade wasn't baffling enough, the Hawks traded for Rundblad lol.

I swear if he eventually kills us, I'm gonna be pissed.

Berglund (better than Sutter)

...And I'm stumped.

Blackhawks acquire Rundblad. I still think he'll end up being a decent player.

Garrioch thinks Roy could be traded. Granted it's Roy, but it's a reason that I can use to convince myself that we are going for a center. We'd only be saving about 150k in money, so I doubt that is a reason and if we lose a center, he'd be a valuable piece to hold on to.

Rundblad went for a 2nd. Weird trade. Luongo was just dumb, Penner opened up a spot for Vanek or Moulson or someone, but this one was just weird.

Garrioch seems to be nothing but off when it comes to the Blues but I think he might be on to something here. Just feels like we aren't finished. Too many good centers out there.

I can't wait until Tarasenko pulls a Kyle Quincey on Rundblad.

Has he ever said anything right about the Blues? I remember last summer him repeatedly coming out with insane stuff (we were in on Gonchar because we needed help on the blueline, we weren't going to be a cap team this season at a point where it was impossible to avoid etc)
