No.

They have the World Cup...

We should have one too in the time of the year when it makes more sense.

USA hockey start really developping after a bunch of College students defeated the Russians in 1980.
In soccer the best players go to the World Cup and the Olympic teams are made up of U-23 players...with three overagers taken to the tournament.

That would make for a great tournament.

For me it would be as exciting if not more than that we have now. Add the best 18-19-20-21-22-23 y old who are playing at Junior leagues or College, and you have very intense hockey.

I would rather see the same. I also think you would see the best young players and more intensity.

I would love it, but I cannot see it happen in the NHL. Too many importants players would be there, they could not really continue the season.

The best Junior aged players and the best College players would give a good show too.

Send the best Juniors, instead.
They would get killed by the Russians, Swedes, Fins etc. Those countries have excellent players not in the NHL.

I did not think of it but yeah, the europeans countries would not accept to only send juniors and they control the IIHF.

I wouldn't call the Zetterberg injury a Sochi casualty. He's been battling back injuries all year in Detroit.

Agreed. Our best junior players can't even medal consistently anymore, and people want them to be thrown to the wolves? Even further, if NHLers are getting injured at this event, what about kids who are probably not as strong? If they get injured badly, how will their futures be affected as players who are in the middle of their development?

Some never consider these possibilities.

Juniors vs Juniors. Not our Juniors against Pros. Or like somebody said, 23 years old or under.

it would have happened sooner or later whether he was playing in sochi or the nhl but I think he could have benefited from the break. but even so if the wings make the playoffs he might be back then.

At first glance, look how it decimates Edmonton and Colorado. 2 weeks would play havoc with playoff races.

So, any ideas where Callahan might be dealt?

There's a safe source saying he'll get traded really soon and Larry Brooks is also saying that Callahan will probably be dealt.

Twitterverse speculating Callahan for St. Louis straight up....

Read Boomer Esiason's twitter feed over the last 24 hrs.

The European teams would still send non NHLers.

I don't see the Olympics banning players 24 and older in hockey as tjhey don't do it in other sports...Olympic hockey would go back to pre 1998 format.

Well there's a first for everything. But if they don't do it, we have a streak to continue. So I hope we still send the Pros.

IMO Callahan will be traded to a contender as teams willing to offer him a big contract can't match the trade offers.

Where was that said ? All I see is Callahan will be traded soon and that St. Louis asked for a trade BEFORE the Olympics.

That would totally makes sense. There must be a reason why Yzerman said he won't be on TC again; he doesn't want to be in this situation again.
