They don't any top 6 centers (or potential top 6) in their system outside of RNH and Gagner

If they end up picking 2nd and Sam Reinhart and Aaron Ekblad are available I wouldn't wanna be the one making the final choice.

If Ekblad is there Edm takes him. If he's not than they'll take whoever is left from Bennett or Reinhart. I think they trade Yakupov and maybe Eberle to shore up their defense.

We pick 21st? I really hope Bergevin goes for Ivan Barbashev if he's still available, typical Russian streaky player but he's sooo good when he goes all out.

Of realistic possibilities, my Top 5 choices in Round 1 are:

1. C Adrian Kempe, Modo
2. RW Alex Tuch, US NTDP
3. C Ivan Barbashev, Moncton
4. LW, Nikita Scherbak, Saskatoon
5. C Nick Schmaltz, Green Bay

Add Larkin and Bleakley and those are the 7 I could see being drafted by us.

If the Habs pick 21st OV my picks are:

21st - Adrian Kempe - LW - 6'2" - 190 lbs. or Hunter Smith - RW - 6'7" - 208 lbs.
81st - Beau Starrett - C/LW - 6'5" - 200 lbs.
111th - Nikita Tryamkin - LD - 6'7" - 230 lbs.
125th - Jake Middleton - LD - 6'3" - 210 lbs.
171st - Ryan Mantha - RD - 6'5" - 225 lbs.
201st - Dominic Franco - RW - 6'3" - 187 lbs.

This is the catchup draft size, size and more size. With these picks the Habs prospects suddenly get respect, all of their prospects will have room to play when the 2014 draftees make the Hamilton Bulldogs. Teams will learn to play an honest game or pay the price for goonery, finally.

That is one big draft!

Don't you think Kempe is a little small at 6'2" ?

MOAR SIZE!!!!!

I can't argue with the later picks ( I really like the Mantha one). In a draft that is considered to be not very deep, we may as well go for gritty character guys whose styles fit our needs most. My only argument is at 21st where I would go for Tuch or Perlini, even Quenville.

I just see Kempe as a mid to late 2nd rd pick right now. And Hunter Smith is a massive project player. Kind of what Crisp looked like 2 seasons ago. very one-dimentional. I do feel there are better choices for us right now

Every year Hab fans want the team to draft Russians high....last year it was Zykov..before that Grigorenko. It ain't happening...unless Schebak somehow slips and others are gone..that's the only remote possibility. Barbashev will not be a Hab.

Kempe a later second round pick? Hardly!!!! Played the entire season in the Swedish Elite League....he's a warrior.

MacInnis isn't likely to go in the first round...certainly not to the Habs. Skating is the concern.

I wouldn't write off Lander as a top two center, better than a ppg at 22 in the AHL..but even if he isn't...it's not like Gagner and RNH are ready to retire. Center is not a huge need right now, but if Ekblad is gone they'll gladly take Reinhart. Gagner could always be dealt down the road for defensive help or goaltending.

I'm not a Farber but with Kempe I just have a feeling he's a guy that slides to about 40-50th. And to be honest, I see Perlini and Tuch as more what the Habs will go for.

Do you say that because you think or know the Habs have no interest or because you don't see him available by then?

Perlini won't be available as he will be taken in the top 15 and even if he were available I would pass on him. His game's got some red flags. He's disappears frequently and shies away from any physical situation. From what I saw of him he's a pure perimeter player and the last thing Habs want is another Benoit Pouliot. If he ever add grit and effort to his game he could become a hell of a player but I just don't see it.

By the way I wouldn't be surprised if Edmonton selected Draisaitl ahead of any other forward. MacGregor and MacTavish are really high on him. My brother is a Raiders season ticket holder and he saw them a lot at the games. The media in Edmonton is also talking a lot about Draisaitl.

Barbashev will probably be gone but I'm not sure its a slam dunk just yet.

How do you have Barbashev ranked vs Sherbak?

Barbashev is the type of Russian the Habs wouldn't hesitate to draft, he's a character guy that plays hard in all aspects and plays physical.

I expect him to be gone by the time the Habs pick in the 20's though.

No matter how good Vanek is, I doubt that he gets us the cup. A little pissed we will lose a 2nd on him. We have lost too many ends in the last decade.

A late 2nd in a bad draft year, nothing to lose sleep over.

Lol... But really this is a good draft. Kempe is more than a big body. I would replace Starett with Wallmark or Pepin, but I am big fan of Tryamkin and Middleton

Ideally let's re-sign him...then it becomes a steal. Collberg and late 2nd for a 35 goal scorer
