I never trust the judging in in these ice dancing/figure skating events. Mind you, I cant tell the difference between a good and bad skate unless there is a stumble by the athlete.

I watched both skates and I don't think there is any way that the american team was approximately 3 pts better. Virtue and Moir were more on time, their skating was effortless, their lift was more difficult and their expressions with the music were authentic.

It is typical and the apparent coersion that was talked about prior to the games between the US and Russian judges is really no surprise.

I read an article this morning that quotes the inventor of the "Finn step", which is the part of ice dance that is compulsory. He says the Canadians were clearly better than the US performing this. The judges went the other way.

Ice Dancing judging is on the same level as 3rd world soccer reffing.

Jesse Lumsden, the former CFLer, does bobsleigh now?

Makes sense when you think about it, I'll bet he's good at pushing it.

By the way, when you see the Russians 1st in Bobsleigh, remember that Canadian great Pierre Lueders is their coach. He left Team Canada to coach them, saying he wanted to do something else than bobsleigh.

I guess the Russians had their way$.

Curious me - has anyone ever provided an explanation why some events are womens events and some are 'ladies' events. It's almost evenly distributed through the Olympic events.

Even the most recent event to be added, ski jumping, is listed as the more antiquated "Ladies" event.

This woman/lady might be onto something: http://onlyagame.wbur.org/2014/02/13...adies-olympics

Seems to be related to the governing bodies behind the sports.

Moir and Virtue just set an Ice Dancing Free Skate Olympic Record.

But it still might not be enough to net them the gold.

Agreed. That was phenomenal. They don't need any silly gimmicks, they are just fantastic. I really hope they decide against retirement, I'd love to see them in 2018.

The Americans had almost the same score in Free Skate in the Team Event.

Science without conscience is the ruin of the soul.

And you know, that new judging system just makes it harder to see if there was some foul play or not.

I wanted them to screw up.. but they were pretty flawless. Can't complain with that.

There was almost no way the Americans were going to lose regardless. 112 was going to be a cakewalk score for them.

I don't know much about figure skating, but our Canadians were better in my eyes. Much more emotion and much more beautiful to watch.

Haha... No way the Americans deserved more points today.

So I guess it played out just like that article about there being a "deal" struck between the US and Russian judges said it would.. The US would help Russia win the team figure skating gold and the Russian would ensure the US won the ice dance gold.

Not even a theory, it happened before and could have happened again.
IE Jamie Salé and David Pelletier at Salt Lake.

Whatever...

They'll go down in history as one of the greatest pair ever. They were magical in Vancouver and this year they proved they were great champions.

1 gold and 2 silver. Thank you Tessa and Scott for your contribution. I wish you a great after career.
