Average size of recent Cup-winning teams vs 2014 Habs

The size of our team being such a popular topic amongst Habs fans, I thought I'd share a post I made for a thread on the main board (this one: http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/sh....php?t=1601293). It compares our team this season with the past five Cup Champion teams' average weight and height.

2012/13 Chicago Blackhawks - 202.4 / 73.1
2011/12 Los Angeles Kings - 209.14 / 73.5
2010/11 Boston Bruins - 206.4 / 73.3
2009/10 Chicago Blackhawks - 205.45 / 73.4
2008/09 Pittsburg Penguins - 204.86 / 73.2

5 team average - 205.65 / 73.3

2013/14 Montreal Canadiens (22 regular players) - 202.45 / 72.1

Personally these numbers don't even mean very much to me beyond my original curiosity but just thought some people might be interested in the comparison. Enjoy!

Inches, 72 inches = 6 feet.

Take Part-Time Parros and Murray off that list and it gets ugly fast. Especially Murray.

Kilometres obviously.

My apologies, thought inches was a fairly straight-forward unit of measurement for height. But yes I used pounds/inches which is what NHL.com uses. 72 inches=6'0.

I clearly stated it was just comparison for comparison's sake and that the numbers don't mean much. I was curious and thought I'd share. Nothing more. Stupid reply to stupid thread, I guess.

the hawks don't have midgets in key offensive positions. this is why we ain't going far in the playoffs.

can't have briere, gallagher, desharnais, gionta, plekanecs all in top 9 and expect to win 16 playoffs games.

just. can't

Doesn't work that way. As others have said, remove Parros, Murray, who play limited minutes, and it gets ugly.

Our defense is not that bad. The puck moves out of the zone. A #3-4 with size would be a nice addition, obviously.

But there's just no workaround to a top 9 with 4 diminutive guys. Doesn't matter if you have a giant on the 4th line and a tank on the the bottom defense pairing.

I truly believe that by the time we transition to a big core of forwards the game will have moved onto smaller skilled players with speed

Why do you use the term insecure?

Gallagher gets knocked off of the puck very easily. So does Briere, DD, Gionta.

We see it every game. That's not insecurity. That's a reality.

This is meaningless.

Numbers should be in function of the time on ice.

Our bigger guys would be in key offensive positions if they had the talent.

Yep.

Toews / Bolland Crosby / Malkin v Kopitar / Richards v Bergeron / Krejci vs DD / Plek.

We're decent now but have no real chancr at a cup until Gal / Eller step up.

Thanks Galchenyum, though as you said it doesn't mean much. Thanks for taking the time to put this together.
