Well, I still would say it is thin. Grabner was struggling well before Vanek left, no?

Bailey and Czikas aren't exactly top-6 material. It isn't like either was lighting it up pre-Vanek...

I could easily look at the Buffalo roster and make the reverse argument; as soon as Vanek left the team, Ott and Girgensons saw their production drop.

Team performance is the biggest benchmark. Buffalo's improved slightly. I do agree that Ott did fall off after Vanek left.

The argument isn't top 6 versus non top 6. It is performance pre-trade versus post-trade. For the individuals on the team, do lesser players drop off when a "headliner feed me" comes on board?. Stick with the points made and the questions posed.

Don't know if this has been brought up recently, but would you be okay with trading Niemi if you knew you could get a goalie return while addressing the LHD need?

I was thinking something around Niemi+Havlat for Methot+Anderson
Picks to even things out?

Am I undervaluing Methot? Niemi?
Are you even okay with getting rid of Niemi before the off-season?

He's probably their second best defenseman. So no that wouldn't happen.

That team was already sucking before the Vanek trade. Besides, I don't see how switching from Moulson to Vanek made them worse. Vanek is playing the same number of minutes per game this year as Moulson played last year and they're both basically tied to Tavares' hip. I just don't see any reason why adding Vanek would affect the team performance.

Method is 1) likely unavailable due to Ottawa's lack of competent D and 2) not what we need.

Well a few weeks to the trade deadline is coming up. I would think if hertl is for sure not coming back they will look to get a winger for joes line. That should be a good indicator. Also looking at lhd. Also it looks like if we are going to catch the ducks right after the Olympic break is out best bet. The middle to end of their schedule isn't bad. We got to win the h2h match ups

The Sharks have plenty of depth should Hertl be the only Shark not returning this year. Focus should be a Dman should DW be in the market for a trade. With the return of Torres, Logan and a healthy/productive Havlat there isn't any reason the Sharks don't win the Division.

nieto-jt-burns
patty-logan-torres
Havlat-Pavs-Wingels
Kennedy-shepp-desi

Should Hertl return we get even stronger.

I am looking forward to the stretch run. I hope Stalock gets more starts, torres returns to form, Juicy's time off will be beneficial come playoff time, almost a month without the grind/wear and tear.

I believe the lhd could be an even greater need I'm just not sold on having nieto on the top line for the stretch run and playoffs. Hopefully hertl does make it do we can just get a solid d. But I still feel that a winger should be explored if hertl isn't coming back

Despite Nieto doing well on the top line his last few games, I'd love hi on the 3rd line with Pavs and Wingo as that line was great at the beggining of the season. Ideally I'd like to see Havlat moved and the Sharks to use that space toward a winger for depth and a long term lhd. We should try to get as much depth as possible as injuries have been a huge problem in past playoffs. I know moving Havlat likely won't be easy but I think DW must have some plan to make the cap work and I do think moving him is possible.

As great as it would be to get Kulikov, Scott Hannan 2.0 is who we will be trading for around the deadline.

Since we brought back Stuart and Hannan, let's bring back Sandis Ozolinsh for his third stint.
