why cant columbus, detroit, philly or leafs drop 4 or 5 in a row ?
why cant those teams go into goal droughts like us ?
why cant our puck luck (or lack of) change, you watch the games, we get chances, just not getting any breaks right now.

I just tend to see the glass as half full until my team (in any sport) is offically eliminated.
dude we have ONE winning streak longer than 2 games this year. I don't know what this team has done that makes you guys think they have any shot of stringing together wins.

we also have like 4-5 teams we have to jump over, its not just that we are only 3 points out.

dude, really?

because if you WIN the shootout you get TWO points. if you LOSE the shootout you STILL GET A POINT. which is the same as a tie.

what does not winning two in a row more than once have to do with anything ? we won 5 out of 6 once and 3 out of 4 a few times...do we have to sweep everyone in the playoffs ? you win 3 out of 4 you are up 3-1 in a series AND we still have to play all those teams in front of us at least once (some twice) glass half full

The only thing ties would do is lower the amount of points other teams would have. We would still have 61 points.

Without shootouts:

Atlantic
1. BOS 77
2. MON 67
3. TBL 65

Metro
1. PIT 79
2. NYR 63 (28 W)
3. PHI 63 (27 W)

Wildcard
1. NJD 61 (24 W)
2. TOR 61 (23 W)
------------------
3. CAR 60 (25 W)
4. OTT 60 (23 W)
5. DET 60 (22 W)
6. CBJ 59
7. WAS 55
8. NYI 46
9. FLA 44
10. BUF 32

We would play Boston in the 1st round, equivalent of the 7th seed in the previous format.

it shows that we are a mediocre at best team with no shot of winning anything this year.

all we need is a little puck luck , get hot at the right time then BAM ! it aint over yet. you can sulk and dwell on the negatives but I just choose to think differently.

It's not the 3pts so much it's jumping over 4-5 teams that are battling too. Throw in some potential ties between those teams where everyone picks up points and it becomes even worse.

We absolutely can not count on any other teams dropping off significantly during the final stretch. We have to take care of business and string together some streaks which to this point has been impossible.

I've been hearing about puck luck for 2 years now. its not just puck luck. they just aren't very good.

its funny how losing two elite wingers seems to coincide perfectly with a marked decrease in puck luck

I shall ponder this over tea and scones

I personally think we can do it, but need another piece. We turned it up the 2nd half in 2010 - 2011, but I'll admit Kovy was a huge piece in that. This team can keep pace anyone and lose to anyone on any given night, that's for sure (see Chicago/Buffalo weekend)

We have tons of 4 point games left against teams we're competing with.

We need some good regulation wins against CAR, DET, and CBJ.

Those head to head games against teams above us are huge.

Would really like Gagner and Stastny.

If we can trade for Stastny similar to the way we traded for Kovy (Zidlicky for the Avs playoff run, Josefson, Kujawinski and a second???) heck tack on a little more I guess I'd do it. Paul has no connection to any other place but Colorado. He has no "home." Sell him on living in NJ and re-sign him. Heck even if it takes the 2015 I'm crazy enough to just pull the trigger. As dumb as that might seem to the majority.

Gagner is a nice buy-low for a team desperate for impact forwards. Send them Bernier (they want Clifford) who is signed for another year, Loktionov and a low-level prospect. Possibly even a goalie prospect. We don't need those.

Elias - Stastny - Ryder
Zubrus - Zajac - Jagr
Henrique - Gagner - Brunner
Clowe - Carter - Boucher/Matteau(?)

Gagner can be had for cheap and Stastny is a gamble but I think it's a gamble worthwhile at the right price.

Bernier is a FA after this year, isn't he? I don't think he has the value Clifford has just based on the age comparison.

Signed really cheap (minimum I think) for next year as well. Heck they can take the entire ****ing CBGB line if they want toughness and grit. Man I wish Gagner was on the block last deadline and Lou sent them Clarky.

Gagner has far too much potential, 24 year old who has 6-7 years of experience and has been injured. Oilers are dumb to sell this low. Clifford and a pick? Come on. And the Kings are dumber for not accepting to take all that salary and locking this deal up.

Here is what I do this offseason:

here is what I would do

- extend Schneider (6 years, $40 million)
- sign Stastny (6 years, $42 million)
- sign M. Raymond (3 years, $10.5 million)
- re-sign Jagr (1 year, $4 million)
- re-sign Fayne (4 years, $12 million)
- re-sign Carter (2 years, $1.8 million)
- re-sign Larsson (2 years, $2 million)
- re-sign Gelinas (3 years, $3 million)
- re-sign Josefson (1 year $0.8 million)
- re-sign Loktionov (1 year, $0.8 million)
- re-sign Kinkaid (2 years, $1.3 million)
- amnesty Bryce Salvador (saves $3.167 million)
- let Gionta walk
- let Bernier walk
- let Zidlicky walk (or trade THIS year at the deadline)

results in:

I feel that is realistic. but we will be disappointed.
