I see some people here aint got no interest for Mike Green. Well how about another offensive D-man from the league? Aint there any other opportunities to get some pretty good offensive D?

Im just gonna throw out some names here: Subban, Byfuglien, S. Weber, Krug, Fowler, Hedman and the list continues. If we gonna offer Girardi/Strålman and a 1st that a good bunch of value. Aint that enough to get a deal trough for another of these guys?

Personally i see Byfuglien pretty low valued, last thing i read was him being played as a winger. Wouldnt Dustin be a pretty good pickup for a piece and a pick?

My wet dream is getting a hold of Trouba. But i dont see why Jets would let him slip anytime this century

EDIT: Some fresh SN on Byfuglien: http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/h...tin-byfuglien/

Where is all this Green stuff coming from? Just fan speculation or is there a rumor somewhere?

Fan speculations. The closest we get to a rumour is actually, as i mentioned, Byfuglien.

Any interest in Pirri from Chi?

Sounds like he could be available.

That is worrisome. Still think he'd be in a perfect situation here and that he'd make our defense... unreal. At least for this season.
Mike Green needs a time machine, not a change of scenery.

I would be extremely underwhelmed by that return.

Huh? That's a great return for a rental Callahan. Clendening is a better prospect than Barrie, whom many here are pining over. Pirri is a potential middle six center. That would be a fantastic return.

Rangers have to add a lot. If Girardi gets traded for picks and we add those picks to Callahan, then maybe.

Byfuglien has an awesome contract.

Girardi for Green would be a steal for the Rangers (if Green can stay healthy, big if), sign me up.

Trading Strålman for Green would be stupid. Not that Green isn't a lot better, but Strålman's trade value is a lot lower than his value to the Rangers.

It is better to trade the overvalued asset (Girardi) than the undervalued asset (Strålman).

No thanks, Pirri is pretty unimpressive.

Hey guys, just curious why is Callahan on the trading block? I though you guys loved him? Is it a cap issue?

He wants a seven year deal with a cap hit close to $7 million. Everybody here just got finished watching what happens when you give a big contract to this type of player in Chris Drury.

Yeah, pretty much exactly this.

If the Rangers trade Callahan, I'd want a center back if possible. Although Brassard has looked pretty good lately, he's a cold streak away from being no more than a 3rd line PP specialist with an ambiguous ES role. The Rangers will still lack a center behind Stepan that fits the 1B/2A center role, with Richards presumably being bought out. I reiterate; there is no in house solution. Miller and Lindberg both project to top out as 2nd/3rd line tweeners, but neither is there yet. Filling this hole will need to come through trade or free agency.

How many documented concussions for Mike Green in his career? He was concussed a week before the Olympic break in a game against Columbus. The Rangers have enough concussion guys with Nash and Staal. Richards suffered his last concussion in 2011.

Chicago is looking to move Pirri because he loses his waiver exemption next season. The Hawks don't want to lose him for nothing next season.

If the deal is Stralman for Green, sign me up. But I like the way Hagelin fits on this team and am not interested in trading any of our decent young forwards, so I wouldn't include him.

But Stralman wouldn't fetch Green. RB's insistence that we need more offensive from our blueliners is well heard, but beyond tendering a short deal to Dan Boyle, which may or may not be advisable, I don't see a good fit out there. I would look to draft an offensive blueliner this offseason.
But don't you believe that the Rangers have to eventually fill that need. How they can go so many seasons without filling that need? Sather has been here 14 years. Whether its in the draft or in a trade, the Rangers will eventually need to add more offense from their D.

Girardi, Stralman, and Klein all play similar styles. Smart, sound, positional defense. None are great puck movers. AV's MO is having defensemen that are good positionally, but can skate well, move laterally quickly, and move the puck well.

As discussed in the beginning of this thread, if Girardi and Stralman re-up with McIlrath knocking on the door, it's a good problem to have. However, down the line, a deal needs to be made for a right sided puck mover. Fast, aggressive teams like the Ducks, Sharks, and even the Islanders give us trouble because they can pin us in our own zone by stifling our transition game. That still needs to improve.

Jim Cerny had a chat yesterday and he didn't answer single question about Girardi and Callahan.

Cerny alluded to the number of unsigned players when he answered a question about Miller,Lindberg,Kristo and Fast

Quote:
Jim Cerny: HeyAdam: hard to project what next year's lineup is going to look like...Rangers have so many RFA and UFA to make decisions on, negotiate with..so all of that needs to play out first..but I will say those three forwards are going to get very long looks in training camp no matter what next fall...the Rangers expect that those three will be NHL players, the question right now is when
Its 4 forwards. You know what he is talking about. There need to be roster spots for those players to compete for and the spots won't be there if they re-sign all of their current players.

Where does McIlrath play in that scenario? His waiver exemption ends after his third season. The Rangers can't be sitting in the same spot next season with McIlrath being in the AHL with the Rangers not knowing what they have him. Columbus is in the same spot with Erixon. He loses his waiver exemption status after this season. So Columbus will be forced to keep him next season because they're afraid to lose him on waivers. Will he play or will he be a 7th or 8th D? He will need to play and there won't be the minutes for him in the NHL and they can't send him to the AHL because he won't clear waivers. Teams will be leery of trading for him with the waiver status. His career will be limbo. That could be McIlrath in the future. If the Rangers stack up the right side with Girardi,Stralman and Klein,McIlrath will be blocked. You can say the Rangers will move Stralman or Klein. If only it was that easy to move term. The Rangers acquired Klein for DZ and there were 3 teams interested in DZ. Nashville was willing to move Klein for DZ when almost the entire NHL was scared off by DZ's inconsistency. Nashville,Toronto and Ottawa were interested in DZ. There should have been 29 teams interested in him.

Was Green concussed before this Olympic break? Then I would definitely stay away unless he could be had real cheap...

You should know where a player is even if he plays for your farm team.

I wouldn't. No chance.
