I know absolutely nothing about this year's draft, but I'd be very disappointed if the Sharks took a goalie in the first round, even if he is the best player available at the time. If they picked the goalie 29th overall though, I wouldn't mind.

I was about to post something about picking a goalie at 30, then I realized pick 30 is the second round this year.

Still too early for DW. Company mandate is don't draft goalies.

Just because they haven't drafted a goaltender early doesn't mean they won't do it.

The org still needs players in every single position and I wouldn't rule out them taking a goalie given the player talent in this draft, though I do agree it's unlikely.

Darn NJ making things confusing. Sigh.

I was just kidding but I got pretty decent sized hopes for Grosenick. I must say that drafting goalies is weird business though.

I've had Ho-Sang pegged as the perfect Sharks pick this year, but now I see he's ranked 9th in ISS latest rankings...http://www.isshockey.com/iss-top-30/

In most rankings, he has been in the 25-32 range.

Ho-Sang has been all over the place over the last 12ish months. I think around this time last year he was thought of as a top 5 talent in this draft, now I've seen him often ranked in the very late 20's and into the middle of the 2nd round.

There have been questions about him that make me think he might not be a player the Sharks would have too high on their draft board but when he's on his game he has impressive hands and offensive abilities.

I wonder if we will try to move up in the first round. If we are in the 20-29 range, and we move up into the 12-18 range I wouldn't mind if we get another Tomas Hertl prototype at all. Size and great hands up front is absolutely more of what we need to stay competitive in our division.

I am totally fine with dealing the 1st for help this year. Draft, as good at the Sharks have been lately in the late 1st, is not as high quality as it has been, and I think a top 4 Left side d is what we need most.

I'm hoping we can keep our 1st. We still don't have a lot of high end talent in the works, unless our prospects really grow out of their projections. We have two 2nd rounds, maybe we can just part with one of those.

I'm betting Ryan Donato. Random seemingly highly talented kid out of a New England prep school.

Ya, prospects like Ehlers, Ho-Sang, Goldobin are all pretty likely to go in the top 20.

Outside of the top 4 (Ekblad, Reinhart, Bennett, Dal Colle) there isn't a whole lot of consensus out there aside from the significant drop off in talent after that top group.

so from what i have gathered from reading this thread so far. we could pick joe nobody and or pick a top 10 player and we wouldn't know until 5 years down the road if they were a bust or a gem.

that is just how wide open this draft is going to be.

I'm hoping that DW makes the move up and grabs someone like Sonny Milano. We have the picks to make that kind of a move and Dw is known for it.

I'm telling you the Sharks will pick Connor Bleakley. He's a prototypical Sharks pick. Center, gritty, always around the puck.

Does his skating "need work?"

His skating from what I've heard is solid. He's also got decent size. The only knock is he plays in the 'Dub and the Sharks seem to not draft from there as much as they used to but since Mirco plays for Everett, no doubt the Sharks know who Connor is.

There are a lot of those types of players in this draft - smart (hockey IQ), good two way play, versatile, high character, high compete level. What there isn't a lot of is players with high end skill.

Bleakley would be a good pick late in the first if he's available.
