http://www.thefourthperiod.com/news/tor140214.html

"The Leafs have been on the lookout for the top line center, dangling the likes of center Nazem Kadri and defenseman Jake Gardiner as trade bait."

Is this enough to land a TLC? I think the Leafs feel like they are turning a corner now. Kadri/Gardiner will help a few teams down the road. What C could Toronto land now (with those pieces)?

So sick of hearing Kadri rumors. It happens every single year. It's the go-to bottom barrel topic when these guys have nothing to talk about.

The big question is what are they going to do when/if they get one and they fail to click with Phil and JVR like Bozak does? Not saying they can't improve down the middle, but chemistry is chemistry, and I doubt Leaf fans want to see a top guy come in and sit on the 2nd line.

Bozak and future considerations. FC will be Kadri and Gardiner. Theres not a "TLC" or even a good second line centre in the league available for that package

He's considered a grinding 3rd line center on these boards, so people are going to disagree with you a lot about him being a top line center.

Well, they're not trading Bozak.

Realistically, if they were to make a trade like that, it's to create a 2nd line that's substantially more effective than it is.

He's probably the closest. Him and Statsny are really the only 2 I can think of that may be available, but neither are really top line centers. Avs won't move Statsny as long as they're in contention for the Cup, and Kesler probably won't be moved, as centers like him (both great offensively and defensively) are rare.

Nonis said he won't trade Kadri or Gardiner unless we get similar aged players back. I doubt he's "dangling them"

He'd def be one on the Leafs, but generally when Leafs fans on these boards dangle Kadri or Gardiner, they expect min Tavares.

Over exaggerating, but he's very undervalued on these boards. People seem to think he's in his mid 30's when in reality he's only 29.

of those, only Spezza is a 1st line C, and no way Ottawa and Toronto make a trade for a player the calibur of Spezza

The only #1 center I think that could be available at the top of my head would be Spezza.. but they're on the same division.

Kesler is a 1st line center with half decent linemates imo. He's playing with freaking Higgins and Hansen right now he really deserves better. Give him a winger who can actually pass the puck and a speedster on his wing, and he's putting up 70ish+ points, guaranteed. Kesler with JVR and Kessel would be amazing.

Don't let logic get in the way of another eklund novel.

This is just an old rumor being regurgitated due to the lack of NHL activity.

Why try to fix something which is not broken? Because trading Kadri + Gardiner will probably fetch player with similar potential to Kadri or player past his prime. A latteraI move at best. I would be more than willing to move Kadri + Gardiner for defensive upgrade.

Not sure it's Eklund but if I noticed it was TFP I wouldn't have even bothered with this "rumour"

I'd say he's a low-end #1/elite #2 center. Because he's always played behind H. Sedin, Kesler has never played with first line caliber wingers. If he wasn't forced to carry his linemates (whenever Kesler centers a line, it's usually referred to as the "helicopter line"), it would be interesting to see what kind of numbers he'd put up. At his best, he's an elite two-way forward.
