My reaction is mixed. On the one hand I am glad our home-town mom-and-pop mega-corporation landed the gig. Hopefully Comcast will promote the hell out of the NHL, where ESPN and FOX failed so miserably.

However, Outdoor Life Network?! So is hockey now ranked above or below Bass Fishing on the American sport charts? Are we going to have to surf to channel 153 to find this on local cable now? This doesnt exactly burnish the image of Hockey still being a top 4 sport (which it clearly isnt anyway).

Actually I think it's on channel 99 on my Comcast system, and is available on both basic and digital. I think.

I believe I have read that OLN could be preparing to be relaunched. If so, the NHL maybe the cornerstone of a new sports network. I hope they do relaunch and they put a major whammy on ESPN and their hotdog eating-lawn bowling-wnba-kite flying B.S. Perhaps in a perfect universe, while Jim Rome is burning, ESPN will burn down with his idiot opinions.

What evenyone should hope for is that the league still signs some kind of small agreement w/ESPN. I feel the same as most of the posters who think ESPN had pretty much abandoned the NHL (and I don't mean just contractually) but the league needs as much coverage as it can get.

Comcast may launch ESPN rival
If that's true, then this deal looks a lot better.

My digital cable box OLN is 96, which is a comcast box.

I'm sure comcast would change their lineup if this gets off the ground.

I don't get OLN on Service Electric basic- which is a big provider west of Philly. I'm sure OLN will get a relaunch if not a new name entirely - and they cannot possibly do worse promoting hockey than ESPN did - I'm sure your cable provider will move OLN up the dial some away from the 100s...
