Well, as last night proved, it just matters who the better team is that night.

Right now you definitely have better Finns than we do.

... aaaand another thread nice to review at the midway point.

Rather obvious so far, but the two teams aren't all that far apart right now (6 points, Stars one game in hand), so things might chance as the season goes on.

I think it's also been clear to end the Vaananen/Boucher discussions, Boucher has simply been superior, whereas Vaananen has regressed. I'm probably, no, for sure, prefering the Stars D over the Avs D right now, even though individually, the Avs D might be better.

And since then, he's done nothing. If you were to compare Jani Rita and Svatos' seasons in the AHL as 22/23 year-olds, you'd see that Svatos outscored him by a whopping 5 points. That is not good pedigree, and this is coming from an Oilers fan.
Never get tired of this one.

When you watch these teams now, it's rather obvious that neither is as good as they once were. It's a little sad to see.

Vaananen has turned it up of late, this was his first minus in 15 games hasn't taken a dumb penalty in a long time and Q is feilding questions about why he isn't getting more PT. Clark is a plesant surprise and improved at bit since the begining though Breezy's gotten madly inconsistant. Boughner is servicable on the 4th but was arguably the worst Dman in the league when he was on the backline.Sauer's unfairly been caught in a numbers game.

Is Skoula having as decent a season as his stats suggest?

Skoula has surprised me atleast. I figured he would be a lot worse than he has been.

He hasn't been great like Zubie and Boucher but he hasn't been as bad as say Erskine was or Niinima has been in his stay here.

He's made a couple of bad turnoves but besides that he has played solid in my eyes.

The Avs are getting into shape now. They've had their fair share of injuries so far (Vaananen, Konowalchuk, Svatos), but their old guns are starting to roll (Hejduk, Tanguay, Sakic). Don't look now, but the Avs are now 3rd in the Western Conference, leading the North West. Granted, they've played more games then its competitors, but they've been hot as of late. Beating Calgary 3-0, improving to 7 and 3 in its last ten. They are 6 points behind the Stars, the Stars do have two games in hand. The Avs' season reminds me a lot of the Stars season in 2003/2004.

After Detroit and Dallas, it's a very close race. I wouldn't be surprised to see us facing the Avs in the first round (unfortunately)..

probably a good time to bump this thread, since it looks like a strong possibility this will be a 1st round matchup.

I'm not too worried about facing the Avs in the first round. Not that I don't think that they are a good team, but in a 7 game series I think the Stars can get the job done.

The last time the Stars played the Avs, Colorado was starting to get into a groove while we were in the middle of a three game losing streak.

For the first two period, Dallas totally dominated but of course let the Avs back in the game in the 3rd period.

For some reason, I just don't feel as worried about facing the Avs than I did last season.

Colorado, obviously, has played a lot worse since we played them..as long as they continue that Ill be fine LOL.

Since when is Dallas a bitter rival?
I only know of the wings and canucks.

Don't overconfident. A lot of Canuck fans were running their mouths at the beginning of the season, and that didn't turn out so well.

Here's to hoping for an exciting series.

yay because I think a lot of people as me under estimate some player like kiprusoff or the pair Inginla Simon or the defence. Who is underrated at Colorado ? Tangay maybe ? he can't win a series by himself I think.

Yet they were still able to win three consectutive games againist the Avs..

Kinda an interesting thing to look up (No time to right now but will if someone doesn't)...what is Colorado's record since Svatos went down?

Since 1999, when the Stars knocked the Avs out of the Conference Finals twice?

I wouldn't consider it a "bitter" rivalry, but there is definitely more significance playing the Avs than say.. Calgary.

Most likely not as good with him in...Damn Arnott. There have been many times where I have caught myself thinking, "Man, just get it CLOSE to the slot, and Svatos will FIND A WAY". Or several times when I've seen fights down in corners or along boards where I've thought "damnit Konowalchuk would have come out with that and knocked the other guy down for good measure", But alas. I don't hold out grand hopes, but hey hopefully best case for us we can make a good series and maybe upset

True.

It's going to be an interesting series, and the never-ending thread\question will finally be answered! Should be a close one.

Now that Matvichuk is gone.

I know there's a general disdain for Texas here, but I don't think it's pronounced as it was in earlier years.
