Why would a 22 year old, RHD, on an ELC, in an organization that lacks depth be expandable?

As if you would get much in return anyway.

Yea was me. THN said that they were very high on him and would be the first Phantom called up if it was needed.

I wouldn't mind dumping one of grossman or schenn and letting him play 3rd pairing minutes. Cheap elc's playing 3rd pairing minutes is ideal.

I think VV will be back & Holmstrom I'm not really sure of, he's been here for a while now & really hasn't moved up that much. I think they could both mutually part ways this offseason.

Well I do not know whos spot he would take but I do agree. The common misconception is that the best teams have 6 straight NHL vets on defense. This is not true though. Most of the really good teams have a young guy playing either on the 3rd pairing or higher and learning from the vets. The Flyers honestly do see, to be one of thr few teams that dont use this method. Might be the reason why our defense is usually not too good. We constantly sign vets instead of developing players.

Dump Grossmann and let Alt play, dump Downie and put Gus there. Boom, Stanley Cup.

Gus is the prodigy who's been watching over them from the pressbox.

Actually, maybe Gus could be the backup goalie too? Not at the same time obviously.... that'd be silly.

Flyers Nation ‏@FlyersNation 2h
Bob McKenzie said the #Flyers and #Bruins are two teams that could land Swedish defenseman Christian Folin who's with UMass-Lowell.

I would think he signs with Boston given that choice.

I said it on the previous page when Bob Mac made that statement he sounded like we were the front runners. He said Boston added Mez for depth but said the Flyers had heavy interest in him.

Also it's probably about best fit/chance, the Flyers give him a much better chance then Boston to play NHL games.

He might feel he has a better chance at getting playing time on the Flyers though. But, who knows.

^Beat me to that last part.

Idk mez has been in and out of the lineup. That could mean a spot on a top team currently on a 10 game win streak with easily the best shot at going to the finals. Plus he's playing there anyway. Just doesn't seem weighted in our favor.

I think Mez is going to start becoming a regular. It looks like Bartkowski is going to be the odd man out. Mez has looked very good for them.

Nice little report on Folin

http://lastwordonsports.com/2014/03/...s-2014-part-2/

Quote:
Christian Folin, Defence, UMass-Lowell (6’3″ 210 lbs): The 23-year-old Swede put up 14 points in 34 games for UMass-Lowell. However his best work is in the defensive zone, where he has great size and knows how to use it effectively. He cuts down shooting and passing lanes and causes turnovers. He has excellent mobility and is very hard to beat one-on-one. He’s also powerful in front of his own net and along the boards. He has a good first pass and starts the transition game well but isn’t the type of defender who will often join the rush.

If we signed him I assume he would come right to the NHL, right? Otherwise he probably wouldn't sign here.

I guess he would replace Grossmann? Pleaseeeeeeee god let him sign here.

Is there a deadline to sign them or something? I wonder when he'll choose...

UMass-Lowell is still playing. Until they are eliminated, he won't/can't sign anywhere. The River Hawks play ND on Friday in the semi-finals of the Hockey East Tournament with their hopes set for the Frozen Four... which might be a great way to attract him to Philly if they go that far.

I don't follow the NCAA Hockey selection process very well, but I know that each of the tournament winners is an automatic bid (6 divisions), then 10 at large bids. Right now, UMass-Lowell is number 8 in the nation, so even losing to ND or in the finals of the Hockey East Tournament probably still gets them into the Frozen Four tournament, but I'll let someone else speculate on that.

I do trust them for the most part in this area. The do make head scratchers in some of their signings but its more miss than hit for college FA

Nah, in all likelihood, his decision will follow their ouster from the Frozen Four (April 10-12). As I added to my previous post, UMass-Lowell is highly probably to make the tournament regardless of the outcome of the remainder of the Hockey East tournament.
