For What it's worth

I was listening to Leafs Lunch today. And the subject of Mogilny came up. Watters was asked what he was hearing. He named a few teams, Buffalo was the first.

Interesting.

Big Sallary, Gets Hurt, Older....but I'd still take him for old times sake.

He is unsigned, hence no salary yet.

I don't think the team needs AlMo, but I would not be opposed to bringing him in for 1 year. The same goes for Teemu Selanne.

Defense however still remains the primary objective, but if one of these wingers was signed, it would open up one of our other forwards for a trade for the illusive d-man.

edit: Obviously, both Teemu and AlMo would only be good additions if the price is right.

One would have to assume he would be getting a high sallary though which is why I said that.

But I agree about our primary objective being with D men.

It's a gamble, but it's definetly one worth taking IMO, both for the potential goals he brings to the club, but also for that fan base in Buffalo. I'd love to sign him. I'd say 2.25-2.5 per would be good enough, I thought he'd resign in TO for around 2 mill per, it's possible the Leafs aren't even willing to offer that to Alex.

The only real concern I have is that I heard at a recent golf tournament (a month or two ago) he looked really out of shape.

The Talk on LL started with aQuote from Molginy's agent " we have'nt had any contact with Toronto"

Watters said :That Mogilny was working out in L.A, with a number of players and reportedly was the best player on the ice.

He would be a great pick up at the right price of course, imo 2 million per would be very fair...

Heres a lil tid bit about Mogilny:

http://www.thefourthperiod.com/news/tor050809.html

And as for Alexander Mogilny...

... The National Post reports there are at least six teams interested in signing unrestricted free agent but his agent J.P. Barry said the Maple Leafs aren't one of them.

"I have not talked to Toronto about Alex," Barry told the Post

I heard them mention the Devils, not sure the others. I would definitly be interested in bringing him back for a one year deal. He would bring in some veteran leadership and also help with the lost production from Satan.

I was there in the lower golds when he scored his 50th.

Otherwise, no I do not believe the Sabres should bring him in. age + bum hip = bad idea.

I wouldn't mind if they're looking at him in the $1.8-2.0 million range AND they have something worked out to reshape the defense via trade that moves a couple of thier other wingers. Even with an arthritic hip, he has move savvy and NHL playmaking ability than anyone on the team at the moment and would be an interesting mentor for Vanek.

That aside, there isn't room for him, he's got a bad wheel, and I have to wonder if there is any baggage from the last time he was here and Jim Kelley was putting in print that he was deliberately blowing break-aways to make Muckler trade him.

If its a reasonable contract, then i'd love him back in Buffalo. He would probably be our best offensive player. Not sure if thats a good or bad thing really.

His fitness is a huge worry tho.

Unless he's priced alot cheaper than I think he'll wind up getting (over $2 million), I'm not interested.

I mentioned Selanne earlier. If a forward+ is moved for a d-man, guys like Selanne, Mogilny, Bondra, etc. would be a great fit for one season IMHO.
