Leo Komarov as a Free Agent

Leo Komarov has been very good defensively for Finland during the Olympics. He also had a great bottom 6 season for Toronto last year and is playing very well for the Dynamo this season going 12-19-31 through 48 games with a +13 rating. He has stated he wants to go back to the NHL next season as a free agent. I know many Leafs fans have wished we had resigned Komarov over Clarkson and wish we can get this guy back. However, there has been a big gap in the value fans have been willing to offer. We have had everything from 1.25-3.5 million!

I am interested in knowing which fans think their team would be interested in him and how much they would pay for him. I'd say his best comparison is a shorter, stockier Jarkko Ruutu without the PIMs.

If Leo comes back to the NHL, I think it'll either be for the leafs or for a team willing to give him top 9 minutes.

I'd like to see Buffalo pick him up.

- They have a ton of cap room (need to add money to reach the floor)
- Nolan's style is battle / compete across the lineup, all game (remains to be seen if this is a direction Murray is interested in)
- While we need high end / scoring help in the forward ranks, there should be plenty of roster space at forward to give him minutes

If Buffalo needs to overpay a guy or two to reach the floor I would much rather it be a player like Komarov than a player like Leino.

Probably around 1,5mil-1,8mil. Would be one of the best fourth liners at least.

this has been debated extensively on the leafs board.

personally i dont think he has the offense to be a 3rd line player in the nhl. he is like mclemment in that sense. they are great at what they do but better on the 4th line.

i guess it depends on if you need offense from your 3rd line?

on the leafs komorov-bolland-clarkson would be a good checking line but i think it would struggle offensively.

He's got pretty poor hands, type of guy I can see easily getting overpaid based off of a strong Olympics tournament. Under $2 million and you haven't done too bad.

I'd sign Komarov for $1.5M and let Kulemin walk. Almost identical usage until very recently at a reduced caphit.

Exactly this. I love the guy and want him back but he's a 4th liner who can do spot duty on the 3rd.

I'd happily see the Blues give him a multi-year deal at $2m.

Komarov-Lapierre-Reaves as our 4th line

His KHL numbers aren't bad. I think the Oilers have some holes to fill on their 3td line after Hemsky and Smyth depart this summer or sooner. Anything less than 2 million is fair for a 3rd liner.

My Oilers could definitely use a guy like him. If we do in fact complete a deal with the Kings for Gagner that sends Clifford our way, I'd be happy with a 4th line of Clifford-Komarov-Gazdic. Tough line that can play 8-10 minutes and hold their own. I'd toss 2 mil per for 2 years at him.

I am hoping the leafs just offer him the money. Really is a solid shutdown player and would fit perfectly with our team.

Would love him on the Oilers. Would give us a pretty solid bottom-six.

Leo trolling the leafs so hard by wearing number 71 on the national team. " hey I can do everything number 71 does on your team for 3 million cheaper"

The Leafs better be interested in bringing him back.

I'd go 2 years at $2M per. He can replace Kule, who I think walks.

Every team has a place for a pest like komarov. The problem is that someone will be dumb enough to pay him more than 2.0 AAV and end up dissapointed.

i think you guys are going to be sadly mistaken if you think komorov = kulemin. kulemin can play in the top 6 if needed and not be too badly out of place. putting komorov with lupul and kadri would be like putting mclemment with them. komorov doesnt have kulemins shot or net presence. kulemin is the more valuable player which is why he will get/deserves more $ then komorov.

dont get me wrong. i would love komorov back on the leafs, just on the 4th line, not on the 3rd/2nd.

I don't think he's going to sign for less than 2. And he'll definitely get more than 2.

I dont think he'll have an issue finding a team willing to give him 3rd line minutes. I know I'd take him in Pittsburgh.

I think they are more arguing that he is a better option for the 3rd line then having Kulemin there at double the price. Which makes sense if Kulemin is not in Toronto's long term plans for the Top 6. The man can forecheck, and kill penalties. He might not be as effective as Kulemin in front of the net, but he should be able to put up 8-10 goals vs. Kulemin's 10-12 a season. However, Toronto has the cap space to sign both and if that pushes McLaren or Orr out of the line-up thats not a bad thing.

I doubt we could offer him the money he'd be looking for, but I would absolutely love to see him in a Blues sweater next year.

Why do people say he has no offensive potential? He has always carried his load of the offense. I think he is the leading scorer of his khl-team? He has stone hands, but a nice slapshot and a wrister.
