Mike Richter tore his ACL in the All-Star Game. No more All-Star Games. Brian Leetch broke his ankle getting out of a cab. No more cabs.

Icelanders are cursed.

We start tomorrow with a possibly even bigger rivalry game with, for my money, the two best goalies in the NHL. Should be a nice appetizer.

Haha. This reminds me of the do-or-die game against the Flyers in 2010. I was watching on Gamecenter and was like an hour behind, so I put some white masking tape on the top of the screen where they ran the live ticker. But when the Flyers scored to tie it I could see it light up under the tape.

What is the worst injury besides Tavares, Zuccs finger injury? Nobody is mentioning all the lingering injuries that players have been able to take care of during these two weeks. Hank Sedin for example, instead of missing some 8-9 games with his ribs and putting a nail in Vancouvers POs aspiration, he will be perfectly healthy when play resumes. Detroit will get Franzen back.
Good point. Must compare the injury-list before and after the Olympics at least. Dorsett will be some weeks closer to healthy.

The difference was they were hurt while making money for the Rangers and the NHL. Lets not kid ourselves the decision is about $$. It is stupid for anyone to loan an asset to someone without any compensation and all the risk.

Bettman and Daly said at a press conference at the olympics that they see no bump in interest after the games, they also went on to say they don't see a dime and talked about the WC. They also said one of the biggest issues was player INS. I think they were sending big signals that they arent going to south korea. If they are going ill be really surprised.

Is the agreement between the NHLPA, NHL, IIHF and IOC public in any way? Very hard to find the content. If Bettmann doesn't see the point while the IOC practically begs for their participation while stacked with shady cash, it's hard not to expect some money going to the NHL? Or they actually see the importance and future profits long term by building the sport and the brand NHL. Something's off in this equation.

What happened to Hagelin, been in a fight? Just noticed he has a black eye.

And Zucc...

I really hope our players survive the Olympics, no more injuries.

Hockey is on every news channel and in every newspaper when the US has a good game. That never, ever happens in America, even during the cup finals. That right there is a bump in interest. They mean that there's no bump in profit, which is their own fault in my opinion. The Olympics bring the spotlight to the NHL's product, but they don't sell it for them and hand them the money. God forbid the NHL has to do the slightest bit of work to expand itself. They could stream some games for free, talk to an ad agency and come up with some witty copy about the Olympians coming home and how/where/when to watch them. Plaster it everywhere. Get people hooked. Capitalize on this window of interest. The Olympics aren't worthless to them just because they don't do literally everything necessary to expand the NHL. The NHL is horribly short sighted and defeatist with stuff like this. Their crap tournament isn't going to reach anybody that doesn't already watch the NHL.

Let's say I own a company that sells eggs. Once every four years, there's a best egg contest that my eggs are featured in. This contest is aired to the exact market that I want to buy my eggs, and it captures their attention for a short period of time. Would it be smarter for me to try to link that tournament to my product and expand to this market I want? Or would it be smarter for me to take my product out and try to sell it on my own, without the backing of this tournament that will I will never be able to recreate? Seems like a no brainer to me, and, yes I realize this isn't a one to one analogy.

As for Snow, he built a team that has one good player and now he's mad that player is hurt. It was bound to happen eventually. The fingers should be pointed at him for getting 1 player worth the price of admission over a 7 year period.

For the record, this was true when the Rangers were on their cup run after 54 years in 1994 (or at least it led SportsCenter).

Aaaaaaaaand then they had a lockout and all that momentum, which might actually have put hockey in the same conversation with baseball, football and basketball, was killed.

This was also when neither the Yankees and Mets weren't doing anything significant. Giants had star players retiring, and all the NY media was affixed with everything that was going on in the Garden.

Messier, Ewing, Richter, Starks, Graves, Oakley...

Devils fan coming in peace. Anyone know of any good bars around Midtown eastish that'll have game specials? I have to assume almost all bars in the city will be playing the game. Thanks in advance.

Not east side but I saw We Bleed Blue post this before.

I'm sure the Flying Puck near MSG will have the game too.

Don't disagree. All the more reason that it was a tragedy they allowed that one time aligning of the stars to slip away.

How do you break your leg getting out of a cab? Did another cab run over his leg as he was stepping out?

Since NHL participation began i Olympic hockey, neither US nor Canada have gotten an Olympic mens hockey medal outside NA ice. That will change now (unless both teams were to be disqualified due to doping ). Maybe not a bold prediction - but still not the norm
Would like to see Sweden win it all - but have a hard time seeing that happen with the hockey they have played --- so far that is...
