I think he started the season in the ECHL and has been in the AHL. I saw some tampa fan say that.

Friday is going to be such a great, emotional game.

Going to be tough to quell those emotions at work

I fully plan to scream as I normally would at home. No shootouts, I can't take shootouts.

That would just be awful. I hate shootouts in situations like this.

Shootouts have no business in elimination games. Prelims I'm ok with.

Exactly. It's way too much of a team game to have such important matches come down to an individual skills competition.

As much as I hate shootouts and hockey is a team game where it's not very fair to decide the outcome on individual skill, I just had this thought, that a shootout actually fits with 99% of Olympic events, which are decided on individual skill and efforts.

Bummer this game is on a Friday. Ratings would be better on Saturday but it is what it is with deadlines and getting the players enough rest.

Gotta plan my lunch around this. It might be one of those really unproductive days at work (Draft Night in Late June and Trade Deadline day always highlight that).

Friday's game will be oh so interesting. It will definitely be an unproductive day for me, and I will explain it as such to my manager in Houston, Texas, who might know what hockey is, but has zero knowledge of its value.

Is it okay for me to give a meek little "Go Canada"?
Oops, already said it.

If it's going to be a USA vs Sweden final we might need to shut down the ranger board for that day

Vanek, Grabbner and Raffl deceided to get drunk in the Olympics prior to their elimination game against Slovenia. Lost surprisingly 4-0 in the Austria's biggest game in history. The stupidity of people is hard to underestimate. Not sure, and unrelated, but the line of big NHL names to dissapoint in this tourney seems endless.

Edit: Source - Norwegian State Broadcaster (NrK): http://www.nrk.no/sport/osterrike-i-...ale-1.11557483

Apparantly the three players themself issued a press release admitting to drinking less than 36 h prior to the last game. Supposively all over Austrian news, and the NrK are also refering to local news.

Also in Swedish news: http://www.aftonbladet.se/sportblade...cle18402372.ab

And it's not talk about a schnapps after dinner, but the kind of drinking that disable speach and doesn't stop untill early in the morning. My own favourity type, but not in the Olympics. By Athletes. Nice blow to Austrian hockey and hockeyfans in deep need of a win in this game.

Wow. I'm pretty sure THAT needs a source or a vetting...

Hockey players boozing is hardly big news, but they usually don't do it when they've got a game the next day, especially not an important one. If it's true that Vanek did that right before such a big game, Callahan's trade value just got cemented as the number one forward available (at least of the ones we know to be available) by far...

The game was on Tuesday at noon, while the drinking (apparantly) occured Sunday night untill 6 am Monday morning.

The odds-makers are usually pretty good, and they got Swe-Fin at 2.12-4.15-2.85 and US-Canada at 2.40-4.20-2.45 (!).

But I don't know. Finland has been so good so far, while Sweden has -- looked -- awful. OTOH, Sweden slapped the Czech around real badly the first 30 minutes and took an early and easy 4-0 lead. After that they have beaten the Slovenia, Swiss and Latvia, while getting trashed for how they looked. I wouldn't at all be suprised if Finland beat Sweden with ease, but you never know.

As to the US vs Canada, normally you talk about how its important to take a game like that period for period. That a game can be lost in one period but it takes three to win it. But in a semi like this, that is not quite true. Its best of one. Its a special environment. Before you know it the pucks just go in for one team, that nerve is there that might allow for that to happen. It doesn't necessary has to be telling of how good the teams are. In 06' Sweden just bombed the czech away and ended up winning 7-3. I remember that game, its like three small plays that decides the game within minutes. It starts with a Swedish D joining the attack despite having zero back up, what could have been a 3 on 1 for the Czech ended up being a goal for Sweden due to a good bounce. A few shifts later someone crashes the net and ends up tipping in a hard slapper from a D despite being tangled up.

I think the US fairly are a bit of favorites against Canada. But there are sooo many good players on the ice, that you never can play it "safe". You could never say that like the US will beat Canada, own the play or whatever. You know, a blast from Weber, a special play by Crosby and a move by like Nash and you have given up 3 goals on them. You can't take it period for period, because with the amount of talent on the ice you can win a game like that in 5 minutes and loose it in 5 minutes.
