Take it with a grain of salt, it is a blog. I'll believe it if TSN or Sportsnet confirm it. Would be a pretty nice signing though.

The blog isn't legit, although that info might be correct:

Quote:
Sean Burke signed with Pittsburgh today. It's a two year deal worth 1.5 million a season. Just in : a report has come out saying Toronto has signed Alexander Khavanov. No details or confirmation yet.
Burke signed with T-Bay. I've got a screenie of the website I'll post if the guy changes it.

Lol, I know that. I'm just pointing out that the blog, although right in this case, is not reliable at all.

Hmm. Well, IF this is true...and it IS the NHLPA website, after all...then we must be about to trade somebody because I can't figure out why we would get him.

Yeah, this just about confirms Klee is gone tomorrow. Or maybe someone like Berg or Belak decided not to accept the QO? Who knows?

NHLPA is a pretty reliable source though .. So its interesting in nothing else and Fergy coming from St. Louis Organization makes it more believable as well ..

What kind of player is he? I haven't paid a lot of attention to the Blues in the past.

I thought he was younger but damn he is 33. He put up 33 points when he was healthy in 2002...

Well at least he has decent playoff numbers. Not the type of dman I would have gone after, but will probably suit Quinns system. As long as he isnt a liability (and by all accounts he isnt) then Im ok with it.

And that's not too bad at all when you're playing behind Al MacInnis and Chris Pronger.

That list on the NHLPA site really isn't updated. It still has Ron Francis,Owen Nolan & Drake Berehowsky on it.

That doesn't explain how Khavanov got there.

FWIW - Andy Strickland (one of the sports guys at KMOX in St. Louis) posted this on the Blues forum at the Post-Dispatch: I seriously doubt he got his info from someone's blog.

http://forums.stltoday.com/viewtopic.php?t=278478

The overview on Khavanov: Blues fans would be too happy to see him go. He developed a reputation (maybe fairly, maybe not) as someone who was better suited to be a forward, with the defensive aspect being an afterthought. When weaknesses on the Blues were discussed, he was a whipping boy for the fans.

However, I know Pierre Lacroix thought extremely high of him. Lacroix commented as recently as the 2002-03 season that he thought Khavanov could be an All-Star nad one of the top 10 defensemen in the league. Offensively I think Khavanov is capable and would fit nicely on the opposite side of whoever runs the power play, especially on the 2nd unit. He's *not* a PP quarterback. Defensively he's better than some people give him credit for, but I wouldn't put him in the same group as a Brad Park. He's not going to play really physical, but I don't think Toronto would be signing him to be the physical presence on the blueline.

The Leafs still have to work out Nolan issues, don't they, and until they do, they're required to pay him. As for the list not being up to date, its got Allison, Domi, and O'Neill on it, plus it has Poni signed, which I'm pretty sure just got done today.

Unlikely.

Think about the mods trying to keep the Trade Rumors board up and running with Aki on the open market.

No, for the umpteenth time, both Bettman and the Leafs have confirmed Nolan will not count towards the cap. They may have to pay him, but it won't count against us.

As with any other team. Any unsigned player stays on his teams page listed as 'unsigned' until he's signed. I don't know much about Khavanov, but at $1.25 million, I have to imagine we could have gotten someone better at his price. So unless this is a move to trade Klee and fre up cap space, I'm not sure what to think. I'm also going to withhold finl judgment on Khavanov until I hear from Blues fans.
