Roberts - 2.25 mil/yr x 2 years = 4.5 mil
Nieuwendyk - 2.25 mil/yr x 2 years = 4.5 mil
Total for Newy and Roberts = 4.5 mil + 4.5 mil = 9 mil
Allison - 1.5 mil/yr x 1 year = 1.5 mil
Lindros - 1.5 mil/yr x 1 year = 1.5 mil
Total for Allison and Lindros = 3 mil (which by my math is 1/3 of 9 mil)
In reference to how many games Allison and Lindros will play this season, don't expect Nieuwendyk or Roberts to play more than 50-55 games each this year.
If it's the cap space you're referring to, a yearly comparison is what you need.
4.5 mil. vs. 3 mil. If TO's new additions have a one year contract, then it's only fair to compare a single year. The next 4.5 won't count until next season.
Sidebar: If the CBA mess had not happened, you guys would still be paying these two 3 and 3.5 mil. respectively. Along with whatever UFAs you could bring over. This all happened to stop that exact thing from happening. Just relax, let's see how it all plays out.
Because they have to go to arbritration with him. They have to make the case they offered him a contract that is what the market is for him. Luongo will argue he's worth what the Bulin Wall got and the Cats will argue all the high paid goalies are either Stanley Cup Winners or veteran playoff performers which Luongo is neither. The Arbritrator will likely award a contract nearer to what the Panthers offered than what Luongo wants.
PP< what you're missin out on is, the Panthers may only hold the card for one season. They are only allowed to take Luongo to arbitration once. ONCE. So if he gets a one year contract out of arbitration, then he can hold out all he wants next year.
