On a scale of 1 to Erik Karlsson, Sam Gagner is about a 2 on the scale of players Tim Murray would covet.

The Sabres could trade for Gagner....draft Reinhart and Bennett....and have the Sam's Club line.

Gags wasn't eligible or NTC until next season (ineligible for UFA status, must be at least 27--sam's too young, or have 7 seasons under his belt,)and that is the only year out of his 3 year deal that the NTC applies.

Gagner still has 2 full years left on his contract at around $4.8M per....after the 2 years in 2016 he is a UFA.

Trading for Gagner would be a Regier-ish move.

If that is one of Murray's first moves as GM, I'll laugh to avoid crying.

Foligno + a minor leaguer or something along those lines. If it cost anything more, I'd walk away.

Maybe Stafford straight up.

he was 17th in scoring for centers last year, 11th in pp points. He was 8th in Western Conference center scoring last year. This is despite not being on the oiler's top line.

He had a tough start of the year, thanks to an assault, but he is back to scoring at a first line center pace. He is not worthless but the Oilers have too many similar players.

He's not worthless. He's just not what the Sabres need right now.

What can he bring to the table that guys like Ennis and Hodgson don't?

Just try to imagine our top 6 after we trade Ott and Moulson. There is definitely a spot for a guy that can play top 6 and the PP.

There is so much more to consider besides Gagner having better hockey skills than Foligno.

Sure, if the price is really cheap....

They could have held onto Omark for a 6th for that.

I think it is LA but what the hey... Gagner for Stafford... Staff has links to the team of course... MacT has loved him for years

Hall-RNH-Eberle
Perron-Arcobello-Yakupov
Hendricks-Gordon-Stafford

Leino-Ennis-Gagner
Ott-Hodgson-D'Agostini
Varone-Girgensons-Flynn
Scott-Konopka-Ellis

Oh wow 4.8 a year for Gagner? I'll pass. His bridge contract was up last season and I must have confused him for Hemsky in regards to their contact status. But yeah, at 4.8 ill pass. Gagners cap hit makes Hodgsons deal look like a bargain. 4.8 per is too much for a guy who has never scored 50 points in a season and offers little else.

Omark was terrible, he definitely didn't deserve to be in our top 6. If we need forwards I would just bring Larsson back up, he seems to be doing great in Rochester.

True, but Larsson isn't a top six guy and if they need roster filler, they had a cheap guy to give a look at in a top 6 role in Omark.

Come on, man. Gagner is a legit top 6 player in the NHL. Omark is a minor league player. While the team will be bad either way, they have to field something that resembles an NHL roster.

I could definitely see a package based around Sam Gagner going to Buffalo for Tyler Myers or Mark Pysyk.

But Edmonton would have to add something good, perhaps a high round pick.

I don't see Gagner as the main piece in a trade for Myers....I also wouldn't be interested in him for Pysyk either.

Follow up question: who gives a rat's *** what our current team looks like? Gagner doesn't bring anything special, especially not when we have 2 similar players in Ennis and Hodgson.
