So, no, it doesn't make sense.
This man knows what he's talking about.

Although trading Callahan with Zucc out for 2 -3 weeks could sink the Rangers.

GM's likely have a few deals done, just waiting until the roster freeze is up to make it official...

Pittsburgh does make a lot if sense:

1. With Dupuis out, and Bennett's situation unresolved, the Pens really need a RW to play with Crisby. That RW needs to be willing to do to the dirty areas. Callahan fits that well. Also, with Dupuis's injury, the Pens could use another PKer, which Callahan excels at.
2. Shero and Bylsma selected him to be on team USA even though he has struggled this year, and played him a lot at the Olympics. They obviously like him a lot.
3. With Orpik and Niskanen coming off the books next year, the Pens could afford his salary next year and beyond rather easily.
4. Callahan bring an element if leadership that the Pens have been lacking since Bill Guerin.
5. Callahan's style appears to complement Crosby well, and it solves Crosby's RW issue.
6. He fits Bylsma's "grind ****ers down" philosophy

However, it makes no sense for the Rangers to trade him to Pittsburgh. But damn, it makes a lot of sense for Pittsburgh.

Because Sather and Callahan's agent can't agree on a deal, that means they won't be able to re-sign a different UFA? THAT doesn't make any sense. Callahan/NYR negotiations have no bearing on retaining other players.

If they're going to be buyers they need to spend assets anyway.

Moulson is also a better pure offensive player than Callahan and will help their anemic offense.

Apparently he has some inside sources with the Rangers? Funny to go from being an NFL QB to being a "hockey insider".
He called the Klein trade literally a month beforehand.

Slim possibility that it's the Jackets. Larry Brooks a while ago suggested Atkinson, a former teammate of Kreider in Boston College.

Extension would be a must though as Davidson said no rentals.

Blue Jackets fans would be pissed if they got him, give him the money, and if Atkinson was the cost. Think they have too many players like him and not enough players like Atkinson(scorer, especially if Gabby is traded/not extended). I have no issues with Callahan but not at the cost of Atkinson, then I would be pissed.

I remember there were strong rumors that the Rangers were interested in Brooks Orpik when he was a free agent last time. I would do it 1 for 1 from the Penguins side. Not sure it makes sense for the Rangers though.

With the trade being "surprising" and "shocking" according to Boomer, I think it's likely he's traded in-division. Don't see the Islanders being interested, Pittsburgh seems like a good guess though.

If it was to the West I could see the Callahan/Stewart swap happening, not sure who it would be for if he's staying in the East.

That sounds a hell of a lot like Pittsburgh. Callahan seems like a guy who'd require overpayment from both an asset and cap standpoint, so I'm wary here.

Legit question, why is a former NFL quarterback following hockey trades?

He's a huge Ranger fan and season ticket holder. Has a lot of inside sources with the team.

Big NYR fan. His daughter is also dating Matt Martin, IIRC.

The fact that he's tweeting it makes me think it's legit. How often does a former NFL quarterback tweet anything about NHL trades?

For what it's worth, Boomer said it's not Moulson.

So, it's East. It's a player that you probably don't like if he's not on your team. It's grit and skill. It's a as a rental for the other team.

hm...

There's no guarantee that Moulson would re-sign. Why trade Callahan for potentially nothing when they can get signed assets? That's why it doesn't make sense.
