I don't see why any team would trade for Brodeur. He's not the goalie he was 10 years ago, if he's still a starter he's a bottom half starter in the league. I don't really see a contender giving up much to get him considering most contenders already have someone better than him to begin with.

He should ride out his career in New Jersey imo, retire after this year. But maybe he still has the drive to keep going I don't know, but it's pretty much going to have to be as a backup if he keeps going past this year imo.

A team like the Wild could use him to help shore up their goalie situation heading in to the playoffs. Some might scoff at that notion based on his play as of late, but an erratic Brodeur is better than an injured Backstrom and ill Harding. The Wild can't go into the playoffs riding a rookie goalie in Kuemper all alone.

Very much this. Harding is most likely done for the season. Backstrom is still hurting and can't stay healthy. Kuemper has been doing well, but he's a rookie. We're already driving him into the ground. We need help. And since we aren't going after Miller (which is a good thing considering the price), Marty may be a cheap solution for the rest of the year. Gut feeling if Fletch were to pursue this that Zucker could be involved which could hurt. We need more guys with his speed and selfishness when it comes to shooting.

Agree with Wild.

But I can see a team like Pittsburgh going for him. If I'm Pens management, I'm not super confident in Fleury and Zatkoff heading into the playoffs.

The Flames traded their star winger..

What if he finds his way into Hitch's dog house?

He'd lead the Devils in goals. They have room to resign him, as well, so I'd not be so over confident.

Marty doesn't care about the Cup anymore, he just wants to get starts and play hockey.

He's never been in Hitch's dog house. Hitch plays Tarasenko on the PK, I think that tells you how much he trusts him.

Brodeur traded will be something I'd have to see to believe and even if it happened I'd have to blink twice.

They traded their star winger for young prospects and picks, not for an aging goalie who isn't very good anymore. The Devils have nothing the Blues need that would get Tarasenko.

Just for the fact that Brodeur has that veteran playoff experience.

If we are shutting down Harding for the year, I do think getting a goalie would be a good idea. I'd just rather see if we can find someone who is better in net than Brodeur is now and cheaper to acquire than Miller will be. I still would rather try to sign Jose and not give up any assets.

Marty was considered down and out before the 2012 run also.

With a good team he can get hot and be a go to guy for 20+ games.

Am I the only one who thinks Brodeur is being so arrogant and full of himself? He feels he deserves so be a starter this year, but he has not even played like a good backup. There is not a single team in the league that he would be a significant upgrade on. He has had one of the greatest careers in the history of professional sports, but it is 2014 and he is washed up. Don't diminish your legacy, Marty, sit it out on the bench for the Devils and retire in June.

No and he's earned the right to do whatever he wants.

Look, I like Marty Brodeur, and respect the hell out of the career he's had...But, there is not a universe in which ice hockey is being played that the used-up husk of Marty Brodeur returns Vladimir Tarasenko as the principal piece of a trade in 2014.

That's just effing silly.

Or, ya know, maybe Marty St. Louis, the Hart trophy winner in '04?

Seriously though, this would be out of nowhere. Never thought I'd see him in anything but a Devils jersey.

With Brodeur, they very well could be. They need some stability there and Brodeur could provide that. I don't think the Vanek thing is a must, Brodeur would be more of a need than Vanek would be.

If Marty is going to another team just to be a backup down the stretch that team is probably not going to give up a lot. Really I don't see the value to the acquiring team or the Devils. They get maybe a 3rd rounder for him?--after the career he's had with him. Better for him to retire a Devil.

If Brodeur goes anywhere, I say it is to MTL.
