Relevant info - Boomer says its Martin St. Louis. Kypreos claims MSL asked for a trade (did not specify to Rangers)

Confirmed it on his radio program this morning, likely why he wasn't sharing it by absolute name confirmation until today.

I would do it. Cally is going for the money. Good for him if that's what he wants. We get a guy who will contribute this year and next. Not the worst outcome. Too bad Cally won't sign at a reasonable price, but bidness be bidness.

The sad part of that is that you listen to Boomer and Carton every morning, not that you missed the announcement. Boomer is good, but Carton is just unbearable.

So from what I've read, MSL was pissed about the Olympic snub and may or may not have requested a trade a few weeks ago. Sather got wind of MSL's discontent and kicked the tires on a Callahan/MSL swap. Yzerman wanted more from the Rangers and a deal was never imminent. Meanwhile MSL may not even be pissed anymore.

Is that about the gist of it?

I get the point, but how long have you been watching hockey for?

I'm sure you know that ironing out the details and finalizing a trade is something that never happens that quickly.

Yeah, I used to listen to M&M, but their shtick got old. I don't even bother with sports radio anymore, other than occasionally listening to NHL network on Sirius.

So the shot blocking, often injured Callahan wants a long term deal for big money. That doesn't seem like a wise thing for a team to do. He's already a 2nd liner, another injury or two and he's a 3rd liner making 6m+ for a long, long time.

That's why Slats is looking at moving him. Callahan's agent knows come July 5th that teams will be throwing money at him.

Oh, of course. But the way this trade was advertised was that it was already done, and both teams were waiting until the roster freeze lifted. Remember, Boomer said it was "imminent" days ago. It doesn't take days to haggle over a conditional pick.

If a trade is in the works, it's in the works. It's not imminent.

In what world is a two time Art Ross trophy winner and Hart trophy winner with a year left on his contract worth the same as a rental third line grinder? If St. Louis for Callahan straight up is a real thing, Yzerman should walk away from being a GM. Even if St. Louis did ask for a trade, there is a hell of a lot more that he can get for him.

Not for nothing, but if this rumor is true, the Rangers and Bolts had 2 weeks during the Olympic break to dot the I's and cross the T's. Imminent means, announced once the trade ban is lifted.

Most likely.

MSL being called to the team after Stamkos sat out may have changed his mind.

Why wouldnt Yzerman rather have Vanek straight up?

If this is somehow all real and we really trade MSL for Callahan during what seems to be a definite playoff year (barring an epic breakdown), I don't think I could ever forgive Yzerman. The team is solid right now. Please don't mess this up.

Still hoping it's all just rumor though, especially since there have not been really any substantial confirmations.

It wasn't 1 for 1 for St. Louis, it was 1 for 1 with St. Louis.
