Your UFA targets

Your in the GM chair. You call the shots. Which UFA's other than one's we have on our roster do you offer a contract? Name the salary and term. Go!

-Dan Boyle 2 Years at 5 Million (I offer two years because he is probably looking for a two year deal as it may be his last)

-Andrei Markov (exact same at the Boyle as long at Boyle doesn't sign)

-Derrik Morris 2 years 3 million per

-Steve Ott 4 years, 4.5 million per

-Paul Stastny 4 years 5 million per

-Steve Downie 2 years 3 million per

-David Moss 2 years 2.5 million per

-Nikolai Kulemin 3 years, 3 million per

-Mike Weaver 2 years 1.5 million per (excellent pk'er)

I know some of these moves would be redundant if they all signed. These are some of the guys I'd like to see here in the fall.

Any predictions on who will be new next season?

Honestly I would go 2@5mill for Boyle and then 2@5.5 for Markov. Markov could play with Schultz on the first pairing and then Boyle with Marincin to allow Marincin to redevelop his offensive game. That leaves room for Ferrence and a prospect on the third pairing. A vet to work with our young guys to help them grow.

I would offer Kulemin and Moss exactly what you did as well to build a third line with. Acquire Ott or Statsny for second line duty and the team seems to fill up. If we get all of those players we could trade Gagner for quantity of either fourth line/AHL players or picks. Roll with a line up of

Hall - RNH - Eberle
Perron - Statsny/Ott - Yakupov
Kulemin - Arcobello - Moss
Hendricks - Gordon -????
Gazdic

Markov - Schultz
Marincin - Boyle
Ferrence - Nurse/Ekblad/Klefbom

I'd got much higher on Markov personally. He'd have such a huge impact on the D as we keep bringing guys along. I'd go 2-3 years at 7-7.5M.

I really like this line up but would make a few changes. I read somewhere on the Colorado board I think that Statsny is looking for around 7 million/year so if that's the case I would stay away from him. I'm also not a fan of Arcobello. Would prefer Gordon there and have Gordon's 4th line spot filled by Joe Vitale from Pittsburgh. I'd also prefer Downie on the third in place of Moss and push Moss to the fourth line.
As for the defense I'd be ecstatic if we could snag one of Markov or Boyle and would be willing to overpay short term. Another guy I like is Derek Morris but I think he may prefer to stay in Phoenix. You are also missing Petry in that line up. This would be my line up.

Hall - RNH - Eberle
Perron - Ott - Yakupov
Kulemin - GORDON - DOWNIE
Hendricks - VITALE -Moss/Pitlick
Gazdic

Markov - Schultz
MORRIS - Petry
Ference - Marincin
PARDY
Klefbom as first call up getting 1st line minutes in OKC

Dan Boyle
Brooks Orpik (he will come cheaper because of a bad year)
Steve Ott would be an incredible addition
Ryan Callahan (super expensive but exactly what we need)
Vernon Fiddler
Daniel Winnik

Can't sign em all though

Would be stoked with this: (these are not neccesarily the lines i would use)
Perron - Nuge - Callahan
Hall - Ott - Eberle
Winnik - Gordon - Yakupov
Smyth - Hendricks - Joensuu

Orpik - Boyle
Marincin/klefbomba - Petry
Ference - Schultz

Not sure what Boyle is going to do. Is it about the money or the chance for one last Cup? I guess if SJ wins this year, then maybe he'd come here, but otherwise I doubt it.

Markov is maybe more likely.

I'd go hard after Statsny as my #1 target. I'd maybe look at Grabovski too.

I'd say its just as likely Markov signs here as Boyle.. Markov loves montreal and has played there his entire career.. i'd bet he stays in montreal

There are a few I wouldn't mind signing but none really that I think would be a great fit here. And the few that would really help are almost certainly not going to sign in Edmonton.

Boyle, sure. Not gonna happen tho and is on his way out. We really don't need any more overager's. Basically a mentor more than a roster spot.

Markov. Same as Boyle.

Stastny. Meh not exactly what we really need but a good player.

Callahan. Hell yes. Not gonna happen tho.

No one else really floats my boat and their effectiveness would really depend on chemistry and how well the coach incorporates them. So in other words they have been good elsewhere but in Edmonton I am all but certain they are gonna suck with Eakins at the wheel.

I think guys like Markov, Boyle, Niskanen, Stastny, Legwand, etc. are pipe dreams, so...

David Moss - 2/3 years @ $2.5M - Proven 3rd liner. Has chemistry with Gordon.

Vern Fiddler - 2/3 years @ around $1.5M - I feel like it's been a long time since we've had a good veteran #4C. Hometown guy too.

Jussi Jokinen - 2-4 years @ $3.5-4M - Plan A for a stopgap #2C if Gagner is moved and no center comes back.

Olli Jokinen - 1/2 years @ $4M - Plan B. Not ideal, but good enough until a longterm solution is found whether it's with the 2014 pick or trade.

Mark Fayne - 2/3 years @ $2M - Solid defensive defenseman with some puck moving ability.

Hall - RNH - Eberle
Perron - Gagner/Jokinen - Yakupov
Lander - Gordon - Moss
Gazdic - Fiddler - Hendricks

Marincin - Petry
Klefbom - Schultz
Ference - Fayne

Scrivens
Fasth

That's without any trades.

I don't think the D can really be improved through UFA without the unlikely landing of one of the big whales. Ideally I'd be looking for a trade like Gagner+Marincin+pick for a player like Jack Johnson. A youngish veteran leftie that can play on the top pairing with Petry.

Tyler Kennedy? He has another year left with San Jose. I wanted the Oilers to trade for him last summer. Could see SJ possibly dealing him as he would be approaching UFA status, and has had a down year.

Another guy I wanted last year was Dave Bolland. With his injuries, and the Leafs step backward, I wonder if he will make it to free agency.

In what world does the best available UFA C take a $1.6M paycut? He'll get around the same he makes now if he stays in Colorado, closer to $7M if he hits free agency.

I feel bad for the team that signs Niskanen to an inflated salary

Horcoff, Penner, Hemsky and Stoll on the front.

Souray and Greene on the back.

Im sure his numbers are inlfated by being on Pittsburgh, but I still think he is a good player on would love him on the Oilers even if it costs a little extra
I dont think he will cost as much as Boyle or Markov so he is my prime target

Very often in Buffalo.
Filled in for injuries in the top 6 with Dallas earlier in career

Being a top six forward on one of the lowest scoring teams in NHL history isn't that impressive on a resume

Dallas had it right. Ott is a guy who plays on your third line and moves to the second line when injuries occur. Not a guy who starts on your second line.

If Ott is your second line centre all it takes is one injury to anyone else in the top six to turn your second line into a third line.

Yeah, I'm with you. Although it would be nice to have him on the 3rd line, paying him anywhere near the proposed $4m would be silly.

I don't think Ott should be a target at all.

Arcobello will probably slot in somewhere in the lineup as we did sign him to that 1 way contract and he is to risky to put thru waivers
