Ignoring the cap for a second, the Blues would never want three NHL goaltenders that would each be due, what, three more fairly significant paychecks. Miller at 30% retained when coupled with Halak and Elliott would represent ~$1 mil in unnecessary costs. Then you have the cap issue where Miller retained at a realistic rate still might not get the job done in the cap compliance department. A subsequent deal with Halak to ____ would be nearly impossible in a soft goalie market and him being a UFA. Then Buffalo will attempt to use the retained salary as a way to increase Miller's trade value when the Blues would be fine taking it on in a dollar for dollar swap. It all leads to a non-starter for Armstrong. Halak has to be part of the deal. Which I think Buffalo fans understand. It's just bridging the the futures gap where Buffalo fans salivate over Ty Rattie and a premium pick (will never happen) and Blues fans want to give up just Halak + conditional 1st if Miller signs (probably will take an unconditional first no matter what plays out with Miller and a non-blue chip prospect).

I could see Stewart+ for Miller, but Halak and Moulson being involved makes no sense.

Buffalo has to take a goalie back and the prospect going to buffalo will not be Jaskin or rattie, more like Carrier. So something like i mentioned earlier, Elliott, Carrier and a 1st for Miller. Unless Washington steps up with a stronger offer...

Flyers will trade Luke and Brayden Schenn. Wayne Simmonds, a 2014 1st and a 2015 1st for Shea Weber. (Plus Snider will throw in a card at Christmas that will conveniently have $27 Million dollars in it.)

As an Islander's fan, I'd be happy with this return. I'm expecting Vanek to get a higher return than Moulson though.

I don't think you'll get that from StL and I don't see any other team that's in a position where that kind of offer makes sense. Maybe I'm wrong, but we'll have to wait until the deadline to find out, I suspect.

I have this odd feeling that Alex Edler will end up in Winnipeg.

No interest from this Sharks fan. Burns actually has more points than Nash, makes 2 million a year less, and could be moved back to defense and become a top pairing D man. He's faster, better defensively, and his puck possession numbers are better than Nash's.

I wouldn't trade Burns for Nash, and I certainly wouldn't throw in a 1st to get a 23 year old less then PPG AHLer who is small, and Powe who would be waived by the Sharks as soon as we got him.

I think from an Islanders perspective this is pretty good.

Fasth and the 1st would be OK compensation for a rental. The 1st rounder is a must but I am not in love with Fasth. If it were one of ANA goalies, id seek Gibson.

I think a 2nd and 3rd would be more palatable for Islander fans... but a first would be a done deal straight up for AMac. But overall these are all in the ballpark (which you dont see often here.)

3. Marian Gaborik to a Anaheim Ducks/Chicago Blackhawks.

I think Glen Sather will re-sign Ryan Callahan.

Evidently you haven't been keeping up on current events. News flash: The Columbus Blue Jackets are not stockpiling for Yet Another Rebuild, and indeed pretty much don't suck anymore. We're not arbitrarily selling off players. But more to the point, there is no way come hell or high water we sell off a top-line scorer - you know, the sort of player any bubble team, such as ourselves, would love to get - for Even More Random Futures.

I could see something like this happening. probably a steal for saint louis but whatever it's for fun.

The other 2 trades could easily be a 1st and good prospect.
That really doesn't help Buffalo IMO.

The most interesting part of this discussion will be when, not if, it happens.

Suspect that will be the Blues' only move until the draft.
That does nothing for Buffalo.
