SOLI'S SHORTSIDE

- The Calgary Hitmen visit the Edmonton Oil Kings today at 2 for likely a more entertaining rendition of the Battle of Alberta. 1st in the Eastern Conference in the WHL goes to the victor. Oilers prospects Greg Chase and Mitch Moroz are in action.

- Meanwhile, it's a huge 4-point game tonight as the Calgary Flames visit the Edmonton Oilers. Both teams are coming off being blanked in their first games back from the Olympic Break. The Oilers sit 4 points back of Calgary in the standings.

- Other games of interest: NJD vs. NYI and FLO vs. CLB

- Yakupov & Belov are out.

A good thread title.

kudos.

U of A are playing as well in playoff action at Clare Drake arena on campus.

They beat UBC 5-1 last night, a surprising result given UBC knocked out Saskatoon last weekend. Bears play a very good all round game and outshot UBC 34-5 lol, in the first 40mins. This Bears team is that good. For those that want to watch a team playing a good system. Game 2 takes place tonight with Game 3 slated for Sunday if necessary.

It'll be a better time than watching the Oilers. An antidote even..

9-6 Oilers.

Good ol' game that brings memories back from the 1980's.

Not that surprising considering they're #1 in the country and were 9-0 against those 2 teams this season.

I would have liked to watch the Oil Kings/Hitmen game.

Sucks that Sportsnet or something didn't pick it up.

Miswording on my part

The result wasn't surprising. The degree of flat out domination was. This could've been 10-0 and as stated shots on goal were 34-5 through two periods.

This is annihilation.

I like the lines for tonight, sad to say they look better with Yak out.

Good job of showcasing Hemsky with RNH and Hall, and Gagner with Perron and Eberle, and against a bad team to boot.

This is unusually intelligent for the Oilers, makes me wonder if Katz's kid has taken control of the team from his secret lab.

The building will be sold out tonight because of all the nhl scouts that will be attending.

Flames blogger just sent out new lines, updated the OP. McGrattan is injured, Westgarth is in.

With Mcgrattan out, the Oilers might win the hitting from behind and fights again.

Man, this team is good.

Thanks, Westgarth was acting like an idiot the last time that we played against him (he was in Carolina). I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised to see him and Gazdic or Fraser drop 'em.

They sure clubbed the hell out of the Oilers prospects every year lol.

Its like watching baby seals...

Sean Ringrose alone has taken a liking to looking better than any Oiler prospect in any of the games played through recent years.

But really Latvia would beat the Oilers probably 9 games out of 10. With how hopeless this club plays as a team I wonder how far they could stumble.

I love the concept of relegation.

So I take it E(ak)instein has figured out burying Perron is probably not necessary, can just put someone like Joensuu there instead, switch up Perron to 2nd line which actually works better. You know, bonafide topsix player and arguably best scorer we have..

But Hemmer now on first line. Wow.

Eakins must have the Czech games on PVR or something.

That stated Hall, Hemmer, RNH should be able to accomplish something against Calgary.

I still think the 2nd line looking weak. If the game is real physical this could be ugly.

ps Whats with guys like Gazdik and Hendricks being the ones saying how poorly the team played last game and taking accountability for that in their comments. They are the last that need to apologize for anything.

Funny how the players that bring it are the ones saying how poorly the club played.

Kinda takes the fun out of coming last overall hey?

Hopefully they wait 'til after MacT and KLo are gone to start doing that.

Yeah it's pretty sad isn't it? I wonder how the guys that dogged it would feel if Gazdic and Hendricks told them that if they dog it they'll tell the opposition that they can take free shots at our "stars"?

Yep. Call out the dog ****ers. Gagner included. of course.

These two guys have been solid foot soldiers and very much unlike guys like Brown imo.

They are better hockey players and have been more consistent team mates.

With either I dont get the impression they are just here.

They really are trying to improve the team and put it out there every night and want it to be infectious.

Hendricks going up to the bench after scoring a goal and trying to pump up the team was classic. Its what you need from vets on a deflated team.

love these guys.

excuse my stupid keyboard doing French accents wtf 1

argghhhhhhh!!!!!

ps I fixed my keyboard with a hammerrrrr

Lol, Bears team isn't so much system play that sets them apart. They are so good at home because they have typically had huge physical teams playing on tiny Clare Drake ice. It's crazy how small that sheet is.

I really wanna beat the Flames. I am happy when we win against them and the Canucks more so than any other games.
