This trade was absolute highway robbery. There should be a parade in Nashville tomorrow. Jarnkrok isn't someone your going to judge solely on stats....very much a 2 way player in the mold of Zetterberg (who's greatest isn't completely determined by numbers)

The red squiggly spell check line underneath Legwand makes me chuckle.

Trading Legwand had to happen and I'm happy with the return. Eaves was just thrown in as a salary dump but he'll be alright to finish out the season. Jarnkrok could be a very good prospect. Leggy wasn't resigning and Poile had to get something and I consider Jarnkrok and the 3rd that could be a 2nd pretty good considering what the returns of other guys were.

Mold of Zetterberg? I'd take it, but you're getting everyone's hopes up.

Appears that way, doesn't it. Though, Poile's been on board the whole ride, so not sure what to make of that.

Yeah, I saw that... Hmmmmmmmm.

I believe the hashtag would be #curiouserandcuriouser.

A few notes:
  • The last time the Nashville Predators played a game where Legwand was not on their active roster was April 15, 1999. They lost to Chicago, 4-2. The game-winning goal in that game was scored by Alex Zhamnov, who retired in 2006.
  • Legwand ends his Predators career with 223 goals and 598 career points, combined between the regular season and playoffs.
  • He is the franchise leader in games played (956 regular season, 1,003 combined), goals, assists, points, game-winning goals (41) and shots on goal (1,925 regular season).
  • His last point as a Predator came in the 5-2 loss to Anaheim before the Olympic break, February 8.
  • His last goal as a Predator was an Extra-Attacker goal scored with 11 seconds remaining in the OT win over New Jersey on January 31st.

I would imagine Trotz and Poile are well aware of the defensive system they employ.

That would be partly my guess as well, in addition to it partly being a necessity of the financial/talent constraints the team has sometimes needed to operate around.

Are you implying that we limit people's offense ability in order to pay them less money?

I'd like to see the actual quote from Poile.

Legwand has never had elite offense skills. If Poile thinks he did, he's blinder than we thought. I think he was trying to say something nice of Legwand.

I took it as him saying we can't afford high in offensive players.

Funny Poile saying Trotz's system kept Legwand numbers down.

Not at all. More the team's inability to buy talent for much of it's life encouraged a system of tough two-way play in order to stay competitive. Thus prospects and players in the past may have been developed more in that mold. Though in Legwand's case, part of me has always felt that he wouldn't have stuck in the NHL if he hadn't developed that aspect to his game.

Could be he was just thrown on to an expansion team at an early age, he'd probably be better if a much more established team picked him in the draft.

I definitely have similar feelings on the last statement.

I think the days of "buying talent" are mostly over. When there was no cap that was more the case. Now it's rare the truly elite players become available to buy. Minnesota last year was the exception, not the rule.

Did a little speculating/guesstimating on what the future could hold for Legwand. I suspect he's headed for maybe 1,500 career games, 300 career goals, and 800 career points.

Interesting note: when I was doing the projections, I determined that DL may be due for a career year next season.

Curious here. I know a bit about David Legwand due to many years of the rivalry between Detroit/Nashville. Couple questions though, like more so specific things.

David Legwand's shot. Any good?
Obviously a pass first player, but does he over-pass?
Can he carry the puck?
Strong on the boards? Can he control the puck along the boards long enough to find a teammate?

etc, etc.

In fairness, those games always meant a lot more to Preds fans than the other way around, forgive those who never cared to pay close attention.

So Wings fans actually don't even pay attention to the games played by the Wings? That admission pretty much confirms what I've noticed about that group since the 70s.
