As I said on the main board thread, I like this move. Didn't cost our NHL team anything, and Winchester should be better than Rupp in that 4LW role.

Winchester - Haula - Mitchell

Me likey.

According to capgeek, Winchester's cap hit is $550k. A whole $1m less than Rupp.
Methinks Rupp is going to be waived.

A good point, and I approve of the avatar.

Maybe saving up cap space for an upcoming move? Can't wait.

Kind of weird that Connelly hasn't had even one NHL shot... seems to put up AHL numbers everywhere he goes.

I like Winchester. Would be nice to get some size on the 4th line.

Nothing bad about this trade whatsoever.

Trading a guy who was never going to see any ice time with us for a cheap 4th liner who may actually get some time with the club. I like it.

it's 100% meh. guy who wouldn't see the NHL ice for a guy who has some experience playing sheltered minutes. I don't even think Rupp will necessarily get waived--dude can't stay healthy. This might be just a move to ensure grit stays in the system when we have to get blasted by STL in the playoffs.

I always pick him up in my NHL games. At least on there he is a good 4th line player.

Hopefully it's the same in real life. Will probably be a cheaper replacement for Rupp/Mitchell on the fourth line next season.

EDIT: Didn't realize Mitchell was signed next year as well. Maybe he is on his way out?

Wonder if the AHL coach is happy with this deal.

Does Connelly fall under that bizarre AHL "Veteran" rule that caused Rau to get traded?

From Russo's blog about Rau:
Quote:
"Rau has been scratched more than a dozen times this year because Iowa has been forced to rotate veterans. Veterans are deemed to be any player that has more than 260 pro games I believe. You can only dress six in the AHL. Iowa has seven, so every night, one of the vets has to be scratched. That’s why David Steckel wanted out at the start of the year. Back then, Iowa had eight and two were scratched per night.

So, this was not fair to Rau, this wasn’t fair to Iowa. It’s a stupid rule when every night one “vet” has to see four ECHLers who aren’t as good as him play in Iowa’s lineup because one of them are not allowed to play.

Rau hasn’t been called up in two years. It’s not his fault the Wild is deeper today than it was when he got callups a few years ago and has players like Granlund, Niederreiter, Coyle, Zucker, Haula above him in the depth chart.
So in order to give Rau a chance to play every day and get a contract next year, the Wild traded him. They were doing him a favor. This was no slight of a beloved hometown boy, as some of my Twitter followers seemed to take it as."

if he was great, hawks would have kept him true or false? im bummed we didnt draft markus granlund who has 23G for the calgary hitmen (i think thats the ahl team). ps we drafted phillips instead of markus granlund who i suggested. too bad the wild dont take advise from msg board posters like me.

Markus plays for the Abbotsford Heat, Calgary's AHL affiliate. The Calgary Hitmen are a WHL team.
Considering the Hawks lost Svedberg, this is a move that makes sense to them.

And yes, I think you'd make a splendid advisor to any NHL GM. You should apply for such a position.

Really.
