An extension Cammalleri is unlikely to sign. It's looking more like he's on his way out rather than re-signing.

Rumours heating up ahead of NHL trade deadline

Is this the calm before the NHL trade deadline storm?

Or is it the same old media ó and social media ó driven hubbub about nothing?

Time will tell, but there certainly seems to be some big fish in play over the next week.

Ryan Miller and Ryan Callahan were long rumoured to be on the block. But Ryan Kesler and Martin St. Louis have come out of left field, both reportedly requesting to be dealt.

With the Islanders out of the playoff picture, Thomas Vanek will also likely be on the move barring a contract extension to stay on Long Island.

Those are just five names ó all big ones ó that are believed to be available. Will they all end up on new teams by next Wednesday? Thatís unlikely, but it is possible. And there will surely be several other smaller-scale deals, plus potential for blockbuster surprises that nobody saw coming.

You're building up for disappointment.

You can also take Gaborik off the list, we're going to hold on to him in all likelihood.

Another trading deadline with all the rumors/speculation hype that it is every year expecting a lot of deals but probably will bust, I'll be glad when it's over.

I don't think there's been enough GM turnover for this kind of speculation. The status quo GMs are the ones worried about winning trades because the focus is typically on their bad choices.

Gillis is a good example. He picked a coach that doesn't mesh with his players strengths. If he insists on "winning" trades his team won't be the one that's winning.

Maybe, maybe not. Still taking the day off to sit in bed and argue about all of it with HF crazies.

No I agree, but I can see something of an Eberle - Boychuk centered mold in the offseason.

Here's for hoping!

That's because everyone gets it in their heads that half the league is going to be swapping jerseys

This.

The cap is too restrictive with the only teams in "BUY MODE" right up against it in most cases.

There'll be a lot of chatter and movement probably at the draft once the Cap is bumped up.

I think we WILL see some of the UFAs moved though. Miller, Vanek, and possibly Moulson.

How long does it take for a player to find a niche in his new surroundings and a team to be able to use said player in variety of situations? Another words, will a traded player (at this time of the season) be effective enough to warrant giving up assets for? Maybe on a roster for next season, but what about a rental?

The hype is greater than the expected impact.

It's always the same and then come deadline day it's all minor moves and no big guns actually get moved. Vanek will this year for sure, Callahan and Kesler I still don't think they move just yet

The Isles will make at least 2 trades, that much is certain, but other than that it'll probably be quite.

Probably going to be very underwhelming because of the format and closeness in the standings. The media needs to get people interested so they talk it up a lot more. Kind of like election season is always a tight race until the end when people actually vote.

As others have said, this will either be he biggest, or the worst. No middle ground IMO.

There are 2-3 teams that are at the breaking point in terms of rebuilding, and unless they are super boneheaded and hold onto their cards, they all could trade 4-5 potential impact players.

Beyond that, there are 4-5 teams that could use to re-tool that could also make a few big splashes if they get the right offers.

Several contenders have legit holes to upgrade if they are going to make it in the playoffs. There are also a few up and coming teams that are looking to add the last piece or two to take them from up and comer to true contender.

All that + the cap increasing this summer COULD result in a massive amount of trades...or, it could result in teams holding players asking for too much and nothing happening.

I'd like him on the Canes....they need some more size up front and preferably one with at least a little bit of ability.

Glad I work from home on Wednesdays.

However while all those names could potentially be in play, odds are we'll only see a few moved. Vanek, Miller, Moulson, Legwand, Callahan and Ott.

I hope so, I took the day off work and I plan to hack darts and drink coffee all day, should be fun.

Although they talk up every TDL every single year, only to leave everyone disappointed.

[QUOTE=Stick To Your Guns;80551601]As far as most players moved and the quality of players moved this could be a big deadline. Or I could be super optimistic and the TSN commercials are getting to me.

But some big names on the block or being talked about:
St. Louis- NEXT YR
Vanek- DEADLINE
Miller-DEADLINE
Callahan-DEADLINE
Kesler- NEXT YR
Moulson- DEADLINE
Girardi -STAYS
Eberle-STAYS
Ganger-DEADLINE
Parenteau-STAYS
Ott-DEADLINE
Legwand- DEADLINE. although they should keep him
Gaborik- STAYS- his value is low and they need to make the playoffs
