You say "watch" as if that is unexpected. Odds are, that's what will happen.

Isn't Blackburn unrestricted free agent?

I'd rather see Henrik and AlMo split time 50/50 in Hartford than one of them rotting on the bench in NY

Lundqvist and Montoya. The Rangers should sign a vet backup for Weekes who can switch with Lundqvist mid-season (if Henke performs as expected).

I still can't believe they signed Montoya to a pro contract already.

nah, they could have left him in college for one more year, but that's it. i don't think it hurts him to play in the AHL now as long as he gets games and doesn't ride the pine

What does he have to prove??? He has been winning at all allevels against all types of NHlers and Euro players and everything.

The only thing he has to prove is that he can adjust to a smaller rink and the angles of shots and all the cluster of people in front of him. With the skills this guy has its almost a given it will be no problem for him. IMO.

Lunqvist is 23 and has proven himself in a league among men and in a league where he played with many locked out NHL'ers and has won and has played in WC and succeeded and out played NHL goalies. This kid is not getting younger so I expect him challenge Weekes for the # 1 spot, so i do see combo of Weekes and Lundqvist in NY, with Lundqvist winning the spot, hopefully . In Hrtfd will most likely be Holt/Asplund and Montoya. I assume. I also really think that NYR management expects Lunqvist to make the squad.

Personally I'd like to see a bounce around vet type. Someone they could scratch in favor of Lunqvist and Montoya or even send down to the AHL without much worry.

I think Lundqvist or Montoya might make the NHL, but I dont think either one is a given. Never underestimate that rink difference between NA and Europe and how that actually takes time to get used to, regardless of what level of competition you've faced.

I just worry about that being taken for granted.

Ideally I'd like to see Lunqvist and Montoya both look NHL ready and maybe rotate them a little. Give each a little time in hartford to get more minutes, a little time at the NHL to get the experience and switch back and forth.

At this point, I don't think Blackburn is even in the equation.
