Right now Martin St Louis is saying he will only wave his no trade clause for the Rangers.

Kesler is not opposed to the rangers but doesnt want to play for AV again.

Malkin has been quoted at saying the only team besides Pitts he wants to play for would be the Rangers.

Being in NY and on and origenal six team means something. Playing infront of sold out crowds that get very loud has to also mean something.

What players can we safely say wouldnt want to be a Ranger if money and roster wasnt an issue. I know Fatso would pass.

Chris Neil turned down the Rangers to play for less money to stay in Ottawa.

The Garden is dead during the regular season.

The high tax rate and cost of living, the fast pace and large population of NYC, the pressure of winnning, playing in a tough and physical division, the cold weather, the way contracts for home growns vs. UFAs are handled, and of course the awful ice at MSG are all factors why people wouldn't want to play here.

I'm not trashing it, it's just a reality.

Really?

I also don't think the cold weather is a factor as most hockey players are from cold weather areas.

How about a couple goalies?

Marty - for obvious reasons.

And Tim Thomas. He'd probably be assuming we're still playing under the same lights.

Plenty of guys who don't like the spotlight, pretty sure Suter said he wouldn't sign with a big market team.

Didn't RJ Umberger refuse to play for the Rangers?

No, he refused to play for Vancouver. He was traded to the Rangers and the Rangers refused to sign him.

I could swear I remember Shea Weber saying he wouldn't be comfortable in a NYC setting.

Stephane Quintal ended up not wanting to be a Ranger, even though he signed here. "My heart is in Montreal."

NY isn't for everyone, whether it be professional athletes or run-of-the-mill commoners. I knew a bunch of people from college who moved up here after graduation and hated it. Different strokes for different folks.

Part of it is their upbringing. Canada farmboys, for instance, may not want any part of the biggest city in the world.

It is refreshing to see -- there was a time not too long ago where the only thing drawing players to NY was the cash, and it showed.

Plenty of people who just like smaller cities or more rural living arrangements. NYC is arguably the best if you want to be in a super urban area, but if you like a slower pace and more open spaces, NYC would be just awful.

However, it's great to see that NYR are at the top of some good players' lists. That's good for the team's image and it's good for when those guys think about moving on from their current teams.

Wasnt it Joe Thornton that said the Rangers is the softest team in the league ? I dont see why he would want to be anywhere near this team

It's funny because in the Original Six era, no one wanted to play here.

Didn't Gomez say the same thing?

I always got the feeling that Kovalchuk wouldn't want to play for the Rangers.

Yeah, pretty sure it was right after the Rangers crushed them and then went on a seven game winning streak.

Ryan Suter.

He didn't say Rangers but did say he didn't want to go to a big market / big city team.

Just going to throw this out there, playing for the Rangers doesn't mean you have to live in New York City. There are plenty of quiet and open spaces to live around the outskirts of the city. All it would mean is getting up earlier in the morning to get to practices and waking up earlier from afternoon naps to get to games.

Also, its kind of a moot argument, every NHL team (besides probably the Islanders for now and the Hurricanes) plays in a "major" city. Suter didn't want to play in a large city, so he goes to the largest city of the most hockey crazed state in the country? Minneapolis and St. Paul aren't Ramsey, NJ.

The Hurricanes play on a college campus. The Islanders are moving to the heart of Brooklyn.

There are no suburban teams left, Hurricanes are the closest thing.

So if anything, Suter should've signed there.
