I have seen plenty of Rangers games since I've been living out here, don't you worry. Honestly I don't really dislike the team, I found the 2011-12 team a bit more likable, but lets not act like Girardi is the same as he was back then. Or even before then.

It's a fine deal - but it's not going to look insignificant in a few years. He's set to be (tied with several players) the 14th highest cap hit among defencemen next year.

Awesome signing for NYR. I was hoping he made it to FA but great for the team and Girardi. He definitely took a discount and a 7th year on the contract that he would have got in FA this year to stay where he wants to be.

Good deal. In the last few years the cap will be high up there anyway. I think it'll balance out.

Can the Canes have Staal now?

We agree to disagree on this. Its cool
Who cares anyways?

I'm just glad that we got Girardi for (hopefully) the remainder of his career!

McD-Girardi set to stifle Ovechkin, Malkin, and Crosby for years to come. Love it.

Why? You already have 3 of them and you still suck.

Good cap hit, 1 or 2 years too long though in my opinion. Fair deal overall though.

you mean in a few years when even less useful defenders are signing for the same price or more?

For every boneheaded move Slats make, he makes an amazing one like the McDonagh contract. Perplexing.

I don't know if they re-sign Stralman now. I'd also reunite the Staal/Girardi tandem, pair Klein with McDonagh and put McIlrath on the third pair.

Why do you think that? Please elaborate, as I see this as a good contract less there will be some injury which can ruin any ones career/value.

Congratulations to the Ranger fans, hope he stays healthy and plays some good hockey for you.

he's 29.

I cant see him wearing down that much by 35, as a defensemen. He also was never the fastest skater to begin with, so not as if we have to worry about his legs going.

Guy is an Ironman too, so not really worried about contract length on this one.

Fair deal. Callahan should take note, as I don't see much difference in value between him and Girardi.

If anything this deal will look better in 2-3 years. The guy is a warrior and is incomprehensibly durable. He plays a simple game. Why do some people think his play is just gonna drop off a cliff? It's not like he'll be 40 when it's up, he'll be like...34 or something.
