Phillips and Senators still not seeing eye-to-eye for new contract

Waiting game continues between Senators and veteran d-man Chris Phillips. Sounds like he wants 2 yr ext and Ottawa prefers 1 yr deal.
Wonder if they'll try and ship him out by Wednesday if they can't get him to budge/refuse to budge themselves?

Chiarelli is probably standing right outside the door. No, he's probably under the table.

He could come right back to Ottawa next year if he wanted to, pure rental on our part. But if he becomes available, I have a really hard time seeing Chiarelli not picking one of his ex-Ottawa buddies up.

I hope the table falls on his head.

I don't want Phillips unless we are getting him for nothing. I'm talking a 3rd rounder that could turn into a 2nd rounder.

If he gives up Koko, Spooner, Bart or a 1st for him I want his head on a pike in my back yard.

Good, hopefully he's gone this time around. Ottawa should've traded him years ago when they had the chance, instead friggin Murray re-signs the guy.

Ya there's no way Phillips should get a 2 year deal. A lot of respect for him for what he's done for the team, but he's a fringe NHLer at this point.

Let's see if we can snake a 2nd out of someone who doesn't realize how bad he is now, and roll with Methot-EK65, Cowen-Ceci, Gryba-Wiercioch for the rest of the year.

I wouldn't be too worried if I were you.

#6 defenceman.

Trade him to Colorado for a fourth rounder.

I would bet on them coming to a 2 year, 4.5 total deal. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong but I don't think I will be.

Lose Phillips in Ottawa and we're way too young on the back end.

Its about time they moved on from him. Send him to the bruins for a chance at the cup, kelly and chara would welcome him with open arms.

I would think a 2nd rounder (that could turn into more) and a meh prospect. Or 1-1 for a prospect.

Really though Two Stanley Cup finals in 3 years.

As for Phillips to Boston, I see it being a perfect fit. I can't imagine his value being too high, no more than a 2nd plus prospect, or perhaps just a late first.

I've always liked Phillips, I'd love him in Toronto but that's unlikely.

Sure, keep him there. He doesn't fit a need besides some vet presence, and sounds like he'll cost more than I'd rather give up.

Chia does have infatuation with old Ottawa guys though, so who knows... but you can keep him as far as I'm concerned.

Avs have enogh of #6 defensemen on the team, you're not getting a borderline 1st liner like PAP for him.

I think Philips would do well on a contending team. He usually gets mean and ups his game come playoffs. Would love to see him in boston as a #5-6 with pk duties. Don't care to much about the return. A second rounder or equivalent prospect. I just feel he would be a better fit on the bruins then sens.

I think they should only trade him if it is to Boston. Ottawa don't play Boston again this season, so there is no reason to avoid an inter-division trade - in fact it is in Ottawa's best interest to make Boston even better so they beat everyone else in their division.

The offer of a conditional 3rd turning into a 2nd is fair IMHO ... or maybe just a 2nd rounder with Ottawa adding a late pick (5th/6th)
