Maybe he can lay Lindros and Allison out with his bone-crushing hits.

I think Lindros can take it. Allison, however may have a whiplash relapse from an errant Campbell pass.

Allison: "Hey, how'd the puck end up on my stick??" (double-take) "Ouch!"

hopefully the new rules help this kid make some plays. I still think we should move him for some rolls of tape and a bucket of pucks.

Kalinin-???????
Tallinder-Numinen
Mckee-Campbell/Jillson

thats how i see it

I always thought of top 4 are
Kalinen Mckee Numinen

Tallinder-5th but i would love it if he was in the top 4.

than 5 and 6 would be
Jillson
Campbell
Fitzpatrick
Janik

If we send any of the 5 or 6 down they would have to clear waivers... so I'd expect to lose them if we did. There was an article saying we would carry extra d and not send them down inorder to avoid waivers.

As it is now
its
Kalinen and ???
Mckee and Numinen
Tallinder and [Jillson, Campbell, Fitz, and Janik)

I know we want to sign a top 2 defensemen but I dont think we will for the fact that. 1) any top 2 or top 4 on UFA is mostlikely gone, cost too much, or wont sign with us. 2) Jillson, Campbell, Fitz, and Janik would be a risk with waivers. So if we dont find anyone at the right price (very likely) management would be contempt to ride the defensemen we have now out.

So it might be
Kalinen and (either Jillson or Campbell)
Mckee and Numinen
Tallinder and the rest of the company (Jillson, Campbell, Fitz, and Janik)

Another reason we will carry 8 is Mckee and Tallinder are bound to be injuried so we should carry 8. If there is too many injuries we can call (as of now) Paetsch becuause he is immuned from waivers and if we sign and prospects to entry level contracts we can call them up as emergency callups

The D situation is not pretty but this is the best solution i think...
I too want to sign a top 4 D. But i dont think it will happen for these reasons

Thoughts?

My thoughts is that Janik will never make it to the NHL at a full time basis. He is a young Rory Fitzpatrick in my mind.

Very likely observation... But with only 8 D on the roster. Would you risk sending one of those D down and losing him to waivers... I would say no and carry 8.
Kalinen, McKee, Numinen, Tallinder, Campbell, Jillson, Fitz, and Janik

For agruements sake, if we dont/cant sign a top 4. Do you sign a 9th as an insurance policy. ex) Patrick if he can still play. and have him be a player/coach type for the younger D?

I'm having a really hard time remembering any mistakes that Fitzpatrick made 03/04. IMO he has slowly grown into a solid, no-frills dman. Granted, it's been a long road. Not top 4, but a depth guy you can count on to make the right play.

I wouldn't. But I'm not a fan of Tallinder either. I'd like to wash my hands clean of both of them. Soupy is destined for promotional work and Tallinder no doubt has a slot waiting for him at Vivid.

Fitzy was generally worn down after spending the first quarter of the season as a first pair, 22 mpg defenseman (a spot which he earned, I'm not suggesting he didn't). He had trouble keeping up and since he doesn't hit very much I think his defensive play was hindered as a result.

I'm still hoping Darcy will do the right thing and trade a goalie for a mid to top defensman. Anyway I look at it, Campbell scares me. He has not shown S$%T since he's been a Sabre. Does he know how to lay a check either? By all means, I hope he steps up this year and proves me wrong, but I'm gonna go out on a limb here and still take Jillson over Campbell.

The other mystery man is Tallinder. I have no idea how to gauge this guy. One game he was brilliant, and the next 3 he looked like he should be in Bantam League in the '03-'04 season.

Priority Darcy, priority!!

So you're talking rochester, right? Didn't they set some win record down their? I would think your top 2 defensmen would have something to do with that.

Rochester? No. I'm talking 03-04 when Fitzy spent the first quarter of the season with Zhitnik on the top pair. I think we've crossed the streams?

OK. Yeah, I don't recall the down-turn in his play.
