To get rid of Hendricks. And a small portion was hoping that Dubnyk would magically improve again.

Just goes to show how having a young goalie develop on a **** poor team can really ruin them

Nontheless he was redundant and overpaid on Nashville. So it was a win win for both teams since edmonton kept a good bit of Dubys salary

edit:just saw that geauxpreds said almost exactly the same thing earlier

Dubnyk imploded faster than any goalie since Jim Carrey. After a couple of solid seasons, I thought he was on his way... and this season he's Red Light Racicot. How do you explain something like that? The change in equipment rules hit him hard or something?

He just had his first child during the season as well.

I doubt we'll ever know exactly why his game fell off a cliff so dramatically.

Its the nature of goaltending. Im sure you can find more examples of goalies being good then suddenly failing. Mason and Bryzgalov (in Philly) are two recent-ish examples, perhaps Ward too.

Goaltending is a stressful position, and sometimes goalies crack. And when goalies crack a little they get really bad, really fast. Its not like as a player where you can slump and have your linemates cover you

Things change, as do opinions. Just because at one point someone maybe thought Dubnyk was a better goalie than X, doesn't mean those same people didn't see more of them and go "Hmm, I was wrong, he's not".
This to a T. Dubnyk was posting increasingly above average numbers on a horrible team (13th in SV %). At the time its logical to look at him and go, if he can keep progressing how good could he be. Unfortuantly he did a complete 180. I think being behind the Oilers D really shook his confidence, and he wasn't going to magically gain it back in Nashville playing 3 games.

What I envision for Dubnyks career is similar to what happened to Gustavsson. He failed in Toronto, went to a new team, and took him a season to regain confidence and become a decent back up option

Price was declining steadily year over year up until this year. His .905 wasn't really encouraging and Habs fans wanted Hall + Dubnyk (posting better numbers) for him. Im glad Price has looked better this season (maybe top 3 goalie this season), but that wasn't always the case

If the Sabres intend on trading Halak I hope they put a claim in on Dubnyk. They need another goalie to back up Enroth for the remainder of the season. Calling up someone from Rochester would not be ideal right now.

why are some oilers fans trying to prove a point they "won" that trade? we get it hendricks has been great foryou but he wasnt needed in nashville so shedding the salary and roster spot was great for them. dubnyk didnt work out but who cares? they have this guy named pekka rinne. hfboards, where every trade must have a winner...

Probably because at the time, Nashville fans were intent on proving we lost it

Honestly, Dubnyk never "fell off a cliff". He was never a good goalie to begin with.

Unfortunately the statistics fail to support your stance.

I still think he goes into a team and signs a minimum salary contract and turns into a Brian Elliot-like signing. The guy shows flashes of brilliance but has a knack for occasionally giving up that back-breaking goal. The fortunate thing for him is that it isn't too late to turn it around.

"occasionally"?
How about consistently? I don't know how many 1-goal games he's blown over the years. Remember a couple seasons ago that Oilers lost a lot - and almost all of them were 1 goal losses. I recall Dubnyk giving up a lot of goals in the 3rd while oilers were tied or leading.

He can't track a puck that well, and his puckhandling gave me aneurisms.
His save percentage is only good because he gave out **** rebounds that end up hitting him since he's big, but he still has no idea what he's doing.
By facet of Oilers actually getting WORSE this year - they actually exposed the real Dubnyk.

From our perspective, the return could have been a jar of melted snow from the outskirts of Edmonton and we would feel like we won the trade. We still do. There can be two winners. You get a nice 4th line energy guy, we get rid of a brutal contract and redundant player.

Nashville dropped a redundant, overpaid 4th liner on a 4 year deal for an UFA to be goalie with EDM retaining 50% of his salary.

Yeah... can't see how that's a win for NSH.

So far, Corey Potter, Cory Conacher and Joe Corvo are on waivers, Devan Dubnyk has cleared. Could be more coming...

Let's be honest here. The Oilers haven't lost that many one goal games over the past few years, and if they were, it was typically Dubnyk holding them in close games before he let in a soft one. And his soft ones from previous years were nothing compared to the garbage he has letting go by this season.
