Yeah, the Preds gave up an NHL player for a guy who they made fun of then cut, they got nothing for an NHL player, Pittsburgh got a 7th for Eric Tangradi.

This trade just cost the Preds money and a contract spot, they lose it no matter how you look at it.

They got rid of Hendricks. That's a win no matter how you look at it.

Gomez and Clemmer might as well get to New Jersey now. Lou loves his former players....

Bollands cap was already covered, Smith going down is for something else. Maybe preparation for a probable trade.

How does it work when teams are picking waived players?

Could Corey Potter be of any use for a team looking for D depth, like Boston perhaps?

Delete - with the merged threads it's needless duplication.

Michael Russo reporting the Wild putting Dowell on waivers as a gesture to give him a chance to play elsewhere. If not claimed, he will go back to Iowa.

The Conacher/Corvo thread is strong enough to stand on its own, but I'm merging the rest of the waived players discussed into the 'Ongoing Waivers' thread. Feel free to continue discussing them, but let's put it in here.

I'd be surprised If Conacher doesnt get claimed. He's still a valuable asset and could fetch a 3rd-4th next year if a team keeps him around.

I think the worst team has first choice and it goes on like that till the best team, I could be terribly wrong though.

Someone tweeted this morning (I think it was Mirtle) that Toronto is trying to open up as many roster spots as possible in advance of tomorrow in order to maintain flexibility in case a deal comes along/there's a player they like on waivers.

Surprised to see Smith on waivers. But I guess with Bolland returning and Carlyles twitch need to have face punchers, there really isnt a place for him. He'd be a good pickup for any team I think.

Yes. I think Potter is a capable bottom pair guy. He's well rounded and good on the PP.

I commented on this previously, in the specific waiver thread for him, but it got deleted when it was merged to this general thread.

Smith being sent down is mostly to make room for Bolland, and to captain the Marlies in the stretch run.
If he had been waived before his injury he definitely would have been claimed, but now he's back and has been a little disappointing. Plus, teams have been very hesitant to put in any claims in 2014; cap space and contract slots are very valuable this year. At this point I would not be surprised if he clears. Either way, I wouldn't be surprised either if we don't see him in a Leafs jersey again this season.

LOL @ Conacher waived. I think I was one of a very few people laughing at Murray in Ottawa for making an awful trade in giving up Bishop for Conacher, while the rest of the world lambasted Stevie Y for giving up the next great rookie sensation.
