Isn't Ottawa already bottom five for salaries? With Spezza and Ryan expiring next season?

Man, if Ottawa wanted to blow it up they could pull a Buffalo and have some serious picks in no time.

how could Ottawa be interested in moulson/stewart while shopping spezza? doesn't seem like proper player management to me...

Depends on the potential return we'd get in a Spezza deal, I suppose.

Mika Zibanejad and Kyle Turris are why.

Interesting. Thanks for the info. No idea why they'd want to move him, then, unless

Not the player he once was. Substantial doubt about whether he'll ever be that guy again.

I wonder which teams that makes him a fit for, then. WPG?

The real strategy is to get rid of guys with letters (Spezza, Philips and Alfie) so Karlsson can have them all on his jersey: CAA

hes not going anywhere, if he was being shopped there would be news about him waiving he NTC first, would make the sens look like a gimmick if they have 3 different captains in a 2 yr span

turris doesn't need a winger, and moulson and stewart would be much better beside spezza than zbj imo

There's a difference between "quietly shopping" and "quietly exploring interest". Nowhere does it say Spezza is being shopped, Murray is only doing his job.

I don't disagree with you but eventually, someone will have to be moved and the most likely candidate is Jason Spezza. I honestly don't think it'll happen at the deadline, but I can see him being moved at the draft.

Stewart does make some sense as he has another year after this one. I feel like if Spezza were moved, a deal to bring in moulson and/or stewart would be off the table for Ottawa as they would have acquired their winger for Spezza.

Someone needs to replace Michalek's (of old) production.

PS - Michalek is going to have a good year next year wherever he ends up. Book it.

Spezza has the same chance of Karlsson at being traded.

Any interest in Edler from Van....what would we have to add with Edler to make it work.

Thinking if the Canucks can flip Edler in to Spezza then they can trade Kesler for Sutter, Pouliot and 1st from Pens.

Our wing positions will still lack offence but atleat we will have 3 solid C's.

Spezza is going nowhere as was already mentioned. Every year there is Spezza trade rumours and nothing happens. There is a 0 percent chance he gets traded this season and if he gets dealt it wouldn't be until next season. Murray is going to give him a chance to bounce back next season not to mention Spezza is making 4 million in his final year which is a big bargain. For a budget team they need all 4 million of that to stay away from the cap floor. Dreger and TFP are not known to always be the greatest sources. Sometimes they pull smoke out of their *****.

Even if there seems to be 0% percent chance the Sens move him, what would a fair deal look like with the Jackets? And what are Ottawa's needs?

IMO Spezza doesn't fit the model of the team anymore.

So far this year we've tried the following players on his wing at one point or another:

Greening
Ryan
Michalek
Zibanejad
Hoffman
Stone
Condra
MacArthur
Conacher
Neil (I'm not 100% on this one, it might have been a PP)

And he hasn't really looked great with any of them.
Maybe Murray is exploring the possibility that his linemates are not the problem.

This was actually first reported by Pagnotta, then Dreger backed his claim...

A deal isn't imminent, but Ottawa is exploring the market on Jason Spezza, who has a NTC. Talent-for-talent, if moved http://www.thefourthperiod.com/news/ott140303.html

Darren Dreger ‏@DarrenDreger 47m
@TheFourthPeriod. Was told this morning the Sens are "quietly" exploring interest. Tough trade to make, but worth investigating.
Should make things even more interesting... But probably see a deal like this happening in summer, no?

2014 1st, Wennberg, Dubinsky/Jenner?

Not sure how high CBJ is on Jenner.
