Sami Vatanen is RFA. Had excellent olympics and ~0.5pts season with limited games. Don't know how deep r2 of 2015 will be but in a normal draft year would be easily worth giving up 2nd round pick. Young, skilled and dynamic defender who's only downside is size. Allthough poaching other teams players might come back to hount you.

Now only if someone could make Sami a leftie.

He's a really fun player to watch, makes up for his lack of size with speed, good positioning and stick checking. A minute eating machine too, though that hasn't been really put to the test at the NHL level yet. No idea why Anaheim is messing around with him like that, or if he even has a future there based on their packed d-core.

He also said in the interview for a Finnish newspaper that'd he like to continue in Anaheim due they having a winning culture. But these things really don't mean much. Players say one thing and mean another to keep the fan base happy. They've got a really good D core and there'd be a mountain to climb if he wanted the big minutes.

Petrovic + 2015 3rd round pick. Add if necessary. Bruins would relieve some cap, acquire a prospect and pick and we get a solid guy to play with Gudbranson? Re-sign Boychuk if he does well. Could become Soupy's replacement?

Soupy - Kulikov
Guds - Boychuk
Mitchell - Ekblad

Olsen

Boychuk would play with Soup. Best possible fit:

Campbell-Boychuk
Kuli-Guds
Mitchell-Ekblad
Olsen

I have a feeling that if Boychuk comes here, he'll be paired with Campbell. He's a right handed shot, plays on the right side, is responsible in his own end, and would provide a stable, proven veteran presence that Campbell hasn't really had. Kulikov would be paired with Gudbranson and Mitchell would be paired with Ekblad with Olsen as the 7th.

I like the look of that.

Obviously it has some questionmarks/unknowns, but a lot better with the addition of Boychuk.

Only issue is, do we have enough to intice Boston to trade him now without giving up a good player/prospect.

Don't think Petro + a 3rd is enough. Like Chicago with Sharp, both teams are in win now mode. Petrovic is a huge downgrade from Boychuk.

Let's get this going. Who are some legitimate goal scorers that Tallon could realistically bring in and help fix this team right now?

Huberdeau, 2016 1st, + for kessel

Semin might be a more realistic target though

Wingers that are playing for teams that are intentionally tanking.

The Canes would be in a full on tank shipping him off with all their injuries.

I would love to get him.

Is he worth that money? $7 million until 2017-18 is a pretty big commitment for a guy who's always had pretty talented linemates. And I'm sure the Canes would want a decent return for him. I have a feeling he may end up what we're fearing with Jokinen right now if he came here..

I'd imagine they would embrace tanking this year. Their odds of making the playoffs were slim before the season started. I don't think they have any chance now with the injuries.

I wonder what the value of a guy like Yakupov/Eberle is. It's gotta be one of Huberdeau/Barkov/Ekblad/Bjugstad/similarly "untouchable" young player.

I don't think Yakupov has fit in in Edmonton and possibly could be had for a 2016 1st, petrovic or shore, and maybe a 2nd. That said, I'd also do hubs for yak straight, could benefit both teams.

For Eberle I'd happily do Gudbranson + Flash for him.

Eberle has been terrible so far this season.

I wouldn't take that deal.

Really shake things up..

Bjugstad (22), 2015 1st round pick and Fleischmann (30) for E.Staal (29) and Semin (30)

Alex Semin • Eric Staal • Jussi Jokinen
Jonathan Huberdeau • Aleksander Barkov • Brad Boyes
Sean Bergenheim • Dave Bolland • Scottie Upshall
Tomas Kopecky • Derek MacKenzie • Jimmy Hayes
Scratches: Brandon Pirri / Shawn Thornton

Eric Staal comes in and mentors Barkov. Shows him how to play the right way in the NHL. Alex Semin fills the need for a shooter. I think we're better in the long with this deal. Bjugstad has a low ceiling and our 2015 1st rounder isn't gonna be McDavid, so might as well sacrifice it. Jokinen had a good chemistry with Staal. Jokinen, Staal and Semin; a top line that can lead us and take the pressure off Barkov and Huberdeau to be 19-year-old and 21-year-old franchise saviors.

or

L.Eriksson for Petrovic and Shore

Maybe a new location would help boost Eriksson and we'll see the 2011 Loui Eriksson. Hopefully, the concussion issue is gone. Hate losing Petro and Shore though.
