Don't the Sabres have LA's 2014 2nd round pick or do they have multiple 2nds?

Pardon me, but Stanley Cup run, followed by a conference finals run is what winners do.
Morrow, Iginla, Jagr, Roy... All trade deadline aquired players that left to free agency after not winning the Cup.
Meanwhile Handzus has his name on the Stanley Cup.

Would the Kings love to add a solid top 6 scorer? Sure. Are they gonna overpay for potential rentals with their best prospects and picks? Hell NO.

That's terrible for the Sabres.

Erhoff is terribly undervalued apparently. If I were the Sabres, I don't know I'd make that deal WITH the 1st and King, let alone without.

I just keep hoping that no contenders are willing to give up major assets this trade deadline. The last few years, I've seen too many overpayments.

I think Buffalo wont see the playoffs anytime soon. GM's hopefully realize they dont really need Moulson and possibly Ehrhoff the next upcoming years. They dont need to get rid of them for cheap but I will get totally crazy if they acquire a player like Top Titty. He's cheap, good, and will become a 25 goal scorer (at least) for a decade. You dont trade something like that for Matt ***** Moulson and a possible 1st round exit (if the Kings face Chicago).

I will crack up if Jordan Nolan is headed back to Buffalo in a deal.

Moulson + Ehrhoff "solves" the Kings two issues at once, but what other holes would it open? Seems too bold for DL, really.

I don't know that Toffoli -> Moulson is really all that much an upgrade, especially a few months of Moulson vs. at least a couple more years of ELC Toffoli and who knows what after that? Toffoli has looked good on the LW with Kopitar and Williams. Sure, he's still learning, but foot speed and everything, Moulson and Toffoli are similar players.

Muzzin --> Ehrhoff is certainly an upgrade, but the price is surely steep. Problem is Muzzin has games like last night where he looks like a sure-fire top-pairing D for Doughty and trading for Ehrhoff would be only a miniscule upgrade. Then, sometime over the next few games, he'll inevitably pass it up the slot to Ovechkin or something and we'll want to fire him out of a cannon. Needs to work on his consistency, but I can see why DL would be hesitant to give up a lot of assets for what works out to be only decent upgrades at best. But I could be underrating Ehrhoff. Haven't seen him much since he went to the east, though I thought he was an absolute beast out here and I'm probably a bigger proponent of trading for him than most.

I like how you say Toffoli will be a 25 goal scored and say you don't trade that for "Matt ****ing Moulson" who is a perennial 30 goal scorer and one of the best goal scorers in the league. I dont understand why you get this mad about contenders trading prospects and 1st round picks for established top end players

BUF has LAK 2014 2nd and 2015 2nd

LAK has TOR 2014 or 2015 2nd as part of the Bernier trade

Moulson is a rental while Toffoli is on an ELC until 2015. massive difference in $$ and the Kings are tight under the cap as it stands. fairly easy to understand from an asset management point of view. why give up a kid with a high ceiling making 650k a year for a 30 year old making >3MM about to hit the free agency? makes no sense

You also missed the part where I said that you might have the benefits of Toffoli for another decade. He is signed and a RFA after that.

I disagree with your opinion of Matt Moulson being an established top end player. Perhaps there it goes wrong.

This exactly. If MM still had say 3 to 5 years left his deal then he would be worth what snow is asking. No way in hell he worth toffoli as a rental.

FWIW: Eklund saying that the Sabres have given at least one team permission to talk extension with Moulson.

Which means they probably haven't of course.

You do realize the playoff format has changed where its a divisional format

If STL and ANA win the divisions w/ANA being the higher seed the playoffs would look like:

CHI vs COL
SJ vs LAK
STL vs WC team with highesr points
ANA vs WC team with the lower points

FWIW Dennis Bernstein saying pretty much the same.

@DennisTFP: @JoelThompson1 Buffalo/Kings deal expanded as talks continued. Not a pure rental situation at present.

I always wait until the end of the regular season.

I don't think we're even looking to acquire Toffoli because Lombardi is a shrewd GM, but I would be so happy if we did.

No, contenders do not trade their best offensive prospects unless it's for bona fide star players. That's not Moulson, even if he wasn't a rental.

Not sure if this is sarcasm. Us Kings fans have lived in the basement for so many years we're still confused by all this "playoffs" stuff we keep finding ourselves in.
